Today we’d like to introduce you to Joni Aguilera.
Hi Joni, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Joni Aguilera. I grew up in Athens, Texas, in a working cowboy family with two younger sisters. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Milton Aguilera. We are raising two wonderful children, Emma, 2, and Royall, 6 months. We love to rope and so we travel to lots of team ropings throughout the year. I operate my jewelry business from my home which allows me to be with my babies. Balancing everything keeps me moving, and there is never a dull moment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Often our greatest obstacle is ourselves. Most of us can talk ourselves into or out of just about anything. I loved the idea of having “Shady Lady,” but it was a “what-if” type of deal. “What if I fail miserably? What if I am wildly successful?” We all play that game in our heads. It takes vision and determination followed by a good plan of action to reach your goal.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Shady Lady & Co.?
I wanted to start my own business and loved the idea of having my own jewelry business. But I had a good job that I liked so I hadn’t put the plan into action. Then, in the spring of 2020, the company I worked for shut down due to the pandemic. I went home at lunch and never went back. My husband Milton encouraged me to go for it and start the business. He prompted me to do it or forget about it…in the sweetest way. So, I did. Fast forward to now…I truly am living my dream life. I have always loved turquoise jewelry and have had the opportunity to hold an extensive collection. Turquoise in itself is one of the most beautiful stones in nature. Its influence on Western fashion has been around since the beginning. Turquoise is timeless. It comes in many styles and colors. Being able to bring this magnificent jewelry from artist to collector gives me great pleasure.
Shady Lady and Co. has been such a blessing, a game-changer for myself & my family. This business has taken me places and introduced me to new things. It has given me connections with the finest group of people you can associate with. I’m forever grateful for the artists and clients that I serve.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
God has poured out love and blessings over me through this business endeavor, and I hope to share and pass on all the goodness I can. I am beyond thankful for Shady Lady & can’t wait to see how she grows in the years to come. My personal thanks to each person who has been on this journey with me. Long live turquoise!
