Hi PeezyGoHard, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I go by the stage name PeezyGoHard, but I was born Daylon Brown. I’m a renowned American rapper, entrepreneur, and founder of Black Dollar Records. Hailing from Old East Dallas, TX (Ferguson Rd), my passion for music ignited at a young age of 8, while drawing entrepreneur inspiration from legendary artist/label owners like Eazy-E, Dame Dash, and Master P. Artistically I was Inspired by the creative genius Andre 3000, which is why I tend to rap on majority of beats with a smooth melodic vibe
Beyond my musical pursuits, my record label, Black Dollar Records, takes pride in its sponsorship of non-profit organizations such as Breaking Chains of Hunger and A Heart That Heels Foundation. We are also sponsors of TripleDBattlez, a local Dallas rap battle platform established in 2022 that provides a platform for artists to battle it out on stage for a major prize. I began to gain traction with my single “Everything Is Everything” featuring JDon MoneyBoiii, earning me an interview with the prominent blog REALTALKNOBS, now known as ReallyfeStreetStarz. This exposure led to further success for me, prompting me to establish my own record label in 2016
Under Black Dollar Records, I signed my first talent Jaayb, Toot, and Kenn, who went on to drop their first single, “Cake” the song caught a few worthy ears, and they went to secure interviews at FishBowlRadio and further placements with out of state music blogs like DJ REMI “RemisRoom” and “LunchBreakSessions” in Detroit. The label has released over 50 songs and music videos, showcasing our diverse talents and musical praise.
After releasing three singles, “Poetic Justice, MODE & Hit My Line,” now available on all platforms, I’m dedicated to making a lasting impact with further music by releasing my first album for 2024 titled “Raison D’etre,” dropping September 9th
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to Ownership, Music Artistry, & Managing several artists is by far the most challenging thing I’ve taken on because you’re constantly dealing with everything all at once. You have to prioritize the business over everything. Things like forming the LLC, keeping tabs on profit & loss, business credit, bank accounts & statements, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. No one is offering help. You must do it all. Whether you’re alone, tired, or broke
When it comes to being a music artist, the process of creating music is by far the easiest challenge for me. It’s simple. listen to a beat, create an idea and concept, and jump right in booth. The struggle is having to build a solid budget behind a music video, promotion, all of the aesthetics. It’s a stressful process but a beautiful outcome.
Managing several artists was not much of a challenge, that is, until my business partner Michael Chalmers passed away Fall 2023. That left me with a world of problems on my shoulders from artists separating from the label, managing finances & having to rebrand and restructure a new team for the label to continue to thrive and excel for years to come

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Without risk, there is no reward. Take the most challenging path and test your abilities. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into, becoming a label owner. I’ve studied the greats like Eazy E, Master P, Dame Dash, who were rapper/label owners who also put other artists in position to win and excel. Major risk that I take every day in my profession is doing it broke, not knowing if the money I’ve invested will eventually birth a multi-million-dollar record label, but I’m confident I am on the right path.
