Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickey Jasper II.
Hi Rickey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After graduating from James Madison University in Virginia, I worked for a large technology firm for the first 2 years of my professional career. I was laid off from that company, and 6 months later, after joining another small cyber security firm, I found myself laid off again. I decided to get my National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certification, start an online training company, and then move to San Diego, CA, to work for another cybersecurity company full-time.
6 months after working for the San Diego-based company, I left to pursue my online training company (4:13 Health and Fitness) full-time. Within a year, I began to create fitness apparel from scratch (Four Thirteen Apparel) with a designer in Los Angeles, CA. The company grew for 5 years until I decided it was time to make the move to Dallas, TX to be closer to family where my fiancé and I could set our roots.
Throughout my years as founder and CEO of Four Thirteen Apparel, I stayed in tune with my tech background, working for various companies and contracts as a Business Analyst and a Business Analyst Team Lead.
Currently, I am working in the tech space as a Business Analyst Lead, and I have a Performance Coaching Practice I’ve created called Life Coding. I am also back into Fitness Coaching as well. My current website is relaunching in mid-March – https://www.rickeyjasperii.com/. Lastly, I have a weekly podcast that is on all streaming platforms and YouTube called, Chasing a Greater Vision (https://www.youtube.com/@RickeyLaneII/podcasts). I absolutely love what I do now, and every bump in the road has been worth it.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In the midst of continuing to do what I’m passionate about, I’ve been laid off 4 times in my professional career due to economic conditions and have had 2 other contracts abruptly end on me due to lack of continued funding for the sector. Also, in year 2 of running my apparel company, I hit rock bottom financially. It was the push to get back in the tech space. My mentality has always been to do what you have to do so you can do what you want to do. At the end of the day, I am willing to fail and trying and doing what I love. The lay-offs, contract ends, financial rock bottoms, and having to figure it all out helped me become mentally and emotionally stronger. It’s why I’m so passionate about Performance Coaching.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After receiving my Life Coaching certification, I began mapping out what ‘coaching’ would look like for my clients. To be frank, I don’t care for the term “life coach” because I don’t know everything about life, I don’t have it all figured out, and I cannot tell someone what is best for themselves because I don’t have their experience. However, I am beyond passionate about getting people from being indecisive and fearful to making bold, strategic, goal-centered actions that better their lives. My main goal is to encode swift, strategic decision-making into my client’s daily lives so that life becomes a bit simpler. So, as a Performance Coach, I’ve created Life Coding, which does just that.
What sets me apart is my real-life application of this. I have had, and I have big dreams that I’ve juggled with full-time employment. I consistently put out free content on my podcast (https://www.youtube.com/@RickeyLaneII/podcasts) to connect with others, stay vulnerable, and continue to be authentic in hopes that someone takes the information given and applies it.
I am most proud of my consistency. Consistency isn’t a sexy word, and it is rarely seen as a quality to aspire to have. However, I believe that chipping away at a thing day in and day out makes the biggest change in the long run. I’ve seen it in my business, in my relationship, in my career, in my faith, and in my fitness.
I want people to know that if they are struggling because fear is holding them back doing a thing, and they want to nail down strategy and also encode their brain to automatically process towards success and not fear, I would love to have a conversation. Also, I am so passionate about fitness and if they are lacking energy, feel like they are on a physical decline, and that is affecting key areas of life, let’s have a conversation as well.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a go-getter for sure! I have always had an entrepreneurial side to me as well because being able to create something out of nothing was the most exciting to me. I also loved playing basketball. I played all through high school and at the collegiate level for a year.
