Today we’d like to introduce you to Lain Freefall.
Lain, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my tattoo apprenticeship back in London, England. It has since been 16 years and I travel across the world tattooing which brought me to main base in the states now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t been smooth but through the lows and hardships, I’ve overcome and feel I’ve really earned my place in the industry. Tattooing is now evolving again, and it’s great to keep working and stay on top.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Since working in busy walk-in shops taking on most tattoo styles that come in, I’ve made a name for myself as a “Blackwork” artist. A loose umbrella term for most things tribal, geometric, dotwork style and now fine line tattoos. My work has taken me across the world and built a solid and reputable clientele.
I look back over the years and I wish I took more time to appreciate my achievements. I was featured in Adidas for England during the Olympics, modeled for Diesel Loverdose Tattoo perfume, have been featured in a number of tattoo books and made it as an official canon for Star Wars as the first tattooist character in Star Wars/Disney.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family and friends. They keep me grounded and centered since I have terrible anxiety, and being creative and self-employed can be a struggle. Culture is very important as I research a lot for my process. I want to be respectful of different cultures and also help educate people.
Pricing:
- $100-150 minimum charge. This can be dependent on placement and design.
- Hourly $250 for what we call session work. Large-scale work that takes more than one appointment.
- $1500 day rate this usually covers roughly 6-8 hours but a much more relaxed time for the whole process. A day dedicated to you and no other appoints are made for the day.
- $100 deposit for consultation but is added to appointment on the day of tattooing. Nonrefundable but transferable.
