Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Mack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Mack.

Samantha Mack

Hi Samantha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In high school, I took the Aims test on a whim! To my surprise, it pointed me directly to interior design, which was not on my radar. Prior to that, my college plans included studies in special education, but I totally switched gears, and I am so glad that I did because design fits me. I studied interior design at Baylor University which was a very demanding and rigorous curriculum. I graduated in 2019, and after years of employment with a home building company, I have recently begun Mack Design Co. It has been an enjoyable learning curve, and I am proud that I get to have my hand in all aspect of the business. To me, that is so satisfying because I am always a student, always learning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, it has been a fairly smooth experience. Thankfully, there has been great interest in my business, and I have had a positive relationship with my clients. It has been very rewarding as an entrepreneur to have my clients refer their friends to my business. There have been challenges (like those darn taxes), but I have surrounded myself with people who are experts with business advice and always available to offer their services. I have also developed very strong relationships with my vendors which is a benefit to my clients for a seamless process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a residential interior designer. I like to describe my field of interior design as a cross between an architect and a decorator. I help assist clients in the beginning stages of their floor plan all the way to the completion of the project, whether it be a remodel or a full new build. The nuts and bolts of my business is guiding homeowners in tile selections, cabinet designs, lighting, paint, etc. We call those hard-scape choices. I guide clients with everything but furniture! Oftentimes, interior designers are brought on to the project after the floor plan has been finalized. But in actuality, the best time to bring a designer on board is at the time when an architect/builder is chosen. Architects have an eye for structure. Designers have an eye for space planning, flow, and beauty. I am most proud of the relationships I develop with my clients. I bring a sense of calm and integrity to the projects I work on, as I am experienced in working within a budget, and I think we could all agree that the budget is a big stressor! It’s so pleasing to complete a project with clients who later become friends.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I dedicate my success to my parents, Julie and Ben Mack. They have raised me to strive for goals in my character and work life. There are many examples of professionals in both my immediate and extended family. My great-grandparents immigrated from Lebanon as teenagers in search of the American dream. All growing up, I have heard the stories of previous generations’ hard work and success, but I have been an eyewitness to the success from hard work of my siblings and cousins. My parents have always taught me to do my best in all situations, and sometimes, that came with tough love. At the end of the day, they are my best friends and I owe all that I am to my upbringing.
