Rising Stars: Meet Lily Ha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Ha.

Lily Ha

Lily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Opening up my own business has always been a dream of mine since I started graduate school in 2011. I am thankful for the training and education I received during my graduate program. After I finished my doctoral coursework, I relocated back home to Dallas. Then, I focused on building my career as a marriage and family therapist. After working in several clinical settings across the DFW area, I finally decided to take the leap last fall to open up my own private practice, which is located in Allen, Texas.

So far, I have learned a lot in this journey, from managing the business side of things to marketing and networking to build a client base. It has been challenging at times, but incredibly rewarding to see my practice grow and thrive. I am so grateful for the support of my clients and colleagues who have helped me along the way.

I am excited to continue growing my practice and expanding my services to reach even more individuals in need of mental health support. I am grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and make a difference in the lives of others through my work. Opening my own business has been a dream come true, and I am excited to see where this journey takes me next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Thankfully, my journey has been smooth, and a lot of that is due to what I learned at my previous place of employment. I was fortunate to have worked alongside a dedicated boss and hardworking team that taught me what I needed to succeed there and on my own. My colleagues, along with the support of my friends, family, and clients, have all played a crucial role in the success of my business.

While there have been some technical challenges along the way, overall, I am pleased with how things have turned out. Opening my own business has been a rewarding experience and I am excited to see how it continues to grow and flourish in the future.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, as well as EMDR certified, and I focus on providing trauma-informed services. I am committed to providing a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore their emotions and experiences. I believe in the power of therapy to help individuals heal and grow, and I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve their goals and live more fulfilling lives.

In my work with couples, I focus on helping them improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their relationships. I also work with individuals struggling with substance use issues and codependency, helping them to overcome these challenges and live healthier, more balanced lives.

I believe in the importance of cultural competence and strive to honor and respect the unique backgrounds and experiences of each of my clients. I am constantly learning and growing as a therapist in order to better support my clients in their healing journey.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that the DFW area is growing and diversifying in all kinds of ways. I like how the city is adding experiences and things to do, including parks, installations, and other activities for all ages to enjoy… outside of just eating and drinking. I also appreciate the cultural diversity that is becoming more prevalent in the area, with different restaurants, shops, and events representing various cultures. It adds richness and vibrancy to the community, which I find really exciting.

I do not enjoy the traffic of the city and how it takes so long to get anywhere – whether that’s to eat or do something – because everything is so spread out.

Overall, I think the growth and change in the DFW area bring both positives and negatives, but I am optimistic about the direction that the city is headed in and excited to see how it continues to evolve in the future.
