Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbygale J. Olson.
Hi Abbygale, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a deep-seated passion for health and wellness and a desire to help others. During High School, I found passion for sports medicine while participating in my local high school’s sports medicine program. The program was very comprehensive and laid a strong foundation of sports medicine principles for all of the students. This further sparked my interest in nutrition, and I became very curious how I could help myself and help others with nutrition. I began to see the importance of nutrition in sports performance. After graduating high school, I decided to get my education in biology, and I double minored in chemistry and kinesiology. I had decided I want to go to med school to help others, but in the meantime, I embarked on a path driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives. I started by working as a certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist, which further laid the foundation for my career trajectory. I saw exercise and nutrition as a form of medicine and wanted to help people while working towards medical school. I started teaching kickboxing classes and strength training classes at a local gym, and during my first year of college, I led cycle classes and worked with a dance team in cross-training: we focused on cardio drills, building stamina, and improving coordination. Over time, my passion continued to grow, and I continued to refine my skills and expand my knowledge. I sought out opportunities for growth and learning at every turn. Whether it was obtaining certifications in orthopedic exercise specialization, the barbell rehab method, TRX coaching, or functional movement systems, each step-shaped me into the professional I am today.
Today, I am proud to be an owner of Myoscience Coaching alongside my business partner, Ariel Hollibaugh. Our mission is to work with all kinds of clientele and help them reach their goals, starting with a comprehensive approach. We are slowly creating a network of like-minded professionals that we are partnered with to help our clients. This includes primary care clinicians, urgent and emergency room doctors, psychiatrists, and other professionals. At Myoscience, we are committed to looking at the body as a whole. It isn’t simply about looks or the number on the scale. We look further in depth at the client’s physical well-being, mental well-being, social well-being, and even their spiritual well-being. When we run into a situation that is outside of our scope of practice, we refer our clients to one of our partners within our network. We have worked hard to create this network for this exact purpose.
Alongside the Myoscience Coaching company, we also started a podcast where we are able to share insights and engage in discussions on topics ranging from science and fitness to nutrition. We will be discussing hot topics in fitness and nutrition, debunking myths, speaking on personal experiences, and interviewing healthcare professionals.
Like most, my journey has been filled with challenges and triumphs, but through it all, I remain dedicated to empowering others to lead healthier, happier lives. My latest and most challenging obstacle that I would like to share has been my battle with chronic nerve pain. As a pre-med student, bodybuilder, business owner, coach, and podcaster, I am challenged daily by the obstacle of pain, and it makes all of my daily tasks difficult. With this being such a huge obstacle currently, I have used this as motivation to help others live a happy and healthy lifestyle. One thing I can control in my challenge of fighting chronic pain is my nutrition, fitness, and mental health. Which is why I find it so important to not only incorporate proper nutrition and exercise into my life but also into my client’s lives.
My ultimate life goal is to help bridge the gap between the fitness and nutrition industry and the world of medicine. As for my future, I am currently studying for the MCAT and will take it a second time this upcoming April. I am very excited for the journey ahead and the opportunity to continue making a positive difference in the lives of others.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been smooth.
As mentioned previously, my chronic pain has been a huge struggle. Waking up with pain, managing your day with pain, and trying to go to bed with pain is tough. It’s hard being a student with pain, and it’s even more difficult running a business with pain. However, this is something that I do believe builds character, and I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Although it’s tough to always be motivated while in pain, I have learned to be disciplined. After going through extensive testing and ruling out other conditions, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia by 4 different doctors. Although the condition itself is debated by many, the pain is still very real. I want to show others that any condition that you may have or any symptom you experience doesn’t have to limit you. I will continue to control what I can, which is my fitness, nutrition, and mental health.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Myoscience Coaching is an online coaching company for both athletes and lifestyle clients. We are known for looking at our clients as a whole instead of solely focusing on the number on the scale. It is easy for coaches to get fixated on a single goal and there is nothing wrong with helping a client achieve their goal, but it is so important to take into consideration how the client is feeling both physically and mentally. We pride ourselves in the fact that we are creating a network. In the 7 years that I have been coaching, it is more common than not to run into a scenario that is beyond the scope of a fitness and nutritional professional. In these scenarios, we never want to dismiss a client or turn them away; instead, we refer them to a professional in our network, and we all work together. We acknowledge that fitness and nutrition commonly overlap with other industries, such as physical therapy, psychiatry, and primary care. We are proud to say that we can work alongside various healthcare professionals to help our clients.
One thing I want readers to know would be the qualifications and educations behind my coaching style. We are big on education and think it is very important to always be learning.
