Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Horton.
Tiffany Horton
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised here in the DFW Metroplex. I graduated from Sam Houston High School in Arlington and I received my Bachelor’s Degree from UT Arlington. I come from a very loving family where my parents instilled the value of education and hard work into my siblings and me. My parents taught me valuable life skills early on such as cooking and baking and with my mom being the baker of her family it was only right that I learn these skills as well. At the age of 13, my baking journey began. My mom started having me bake cakes using box cake mixes. From there, I graduated to baking desserts out of her recipe books and any recipe I could find online. I’ve always known I wanted to start my own business, but I never knew what the business would be until about a year and a half ago when one day while eating a donut, I thought to myself, I could make them and start a business selling them. From there, I began looking for recipes and watching videos on how to make donuts. I did a lot of trial and error with different recipes and flavors to see how I could put my own special spin on them. I knew I wanted to make traditional donuts, but I also wanted to let my creativity shine by making unique donuts as well. I believe God gave me this gift for a reason and the only way I know to be a good steward of this gift is by sharing it with the world. Having my business has been a learning process but it has also been a fun experience that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I feel grateful and blessed to be on this journey, and I look forward to seeing what’s next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running my own business has not been easy but, it’s something I would not trade for the world. The biggest challenge I had to overcome was the fear of failure. I could either let that fear stop me from walking in my purpose or, I could face that fear head-on by starting my business. I chose to face my fear head-on by starting my business and I have not looked back. There have been some other challenges that go along with running a business in the food or baking industry such as supply issues with ingredients and equipment but I take none of this for granted. Even with all of the challenges that I’ve faced, I’m very thankful I’ve been able to start my business.
