Meet Julie Buckner and Jeff Fritz of Bar & Garden Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Buckner and Jeff Fritz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Julie and Jeff. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My partner Dr. Jeff Fritz, a native Texan, was raised growing his own fruits and vegetables and digging around in the dirt. His interests in plants & the human body guided his decision to major in biochemistry and eventually become an anesthesiologist. While working in Kentucky, he visited the local bourbon distilleries and was soon making his own whiskey, beer and wine. He (somewhat ironically) has always been interested in how the body can heal itself. His clinic practices minimally invasive procedures much like our producers practice low intervention winemaking…

I started in the restaurant industry here in my hometown of (East) Dallas and went from waiting tables to bartending to management. My wine education was through plenty of consumption, as well as running a retail wine store back in my 20’s. I then transitioned into the fashion industry for several years as a Wardrobe Stylist, Producer, and Art director. The opportunity to become a partner in Bar & Garden came along and it was fascinating to me. I’ve always been a clean eater and when I learned how “dirty” the mass-produced wine & spirits industry was, I knew I wanted to learn more and spread the word.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been overall really great! People walk into the store and are instantly relaxed and intrigued. Once our guests learn about the differences in how organic wine is made and how it makes you feel, it’s an easy sell. The more time-consuming part is researching what we bring in to make sure that they are up to our standards.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Bar & Garden Dallas – what should we know?
Bar & Garden Dallas is a small batch spirits and organic wine store that also sells plants, gifts, and barware. We curate everything and only sell what we believe to be the best available. All of our wines are made from grapes that have no herbicides, pesticides or fungicides used in the vineyards and all of them have little to no sulfite additions. Our spirits are free from artificial additives.

No dyes or weird chemical flavors. We also sell plants as a reminder that all alcohol comes from plants. Our gifts are unique and we are becoming known as the place to go for the person that has everything. I am most proud of our customer service, and the beauty of the space. We truly strive to welcome everyone, answer every question and really teach our guests about the products that we love. Drink better feel better is our mantra.
