Life & Work with Sheila Williamson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Williamson.

Sheila Williamson

Hi Sheila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Greenville, Texas, to two fabulous, loving parents who taught me so many important things that serve me well today. They always encouraged me, always believed in me, always loved me unconditionally, and taught me the importance of faith and family. My Dad taught me the community needs all of us to care and to help wherever we can as he served in many nonprofits and organizations in the community. These important lessons have shaped who I am and my passions in life. I am married to Jeff Williamson (39 years), and we have one child, Chad, who is 34. We all live in McKinney and have since 2000. I am the Director of Community Services for Haiman Hogue, PLLC, a faith-based Estate Planning/Elder Law Firm in Frisco for the past 7 years. I set up all the speaking engagements, live events, webinars, and community activities for the firm, including fundraisers. I am active in The Mckinney Chamber of Commerce, a founding member of Power in Numbers (a giving group), North Texas Gerontological Society, A2Z Care Partners, The Senior Service Alliance of Mckinney, and First United Methodist Church in Mckinney.

I recently became a published author of “Two Calls: Blossoming Faith Keeping Hope Alive,” which is the story of our family’s struggle through a near-fatal accident, multiple surgeries, healing, drug addiction, homelessness, incarceration, rehabilitation, and redemption of our son Chad. This has come full circle with Chad being employed at a substance abuse rehab facility in Collin County, where he works as a Peer Support and helps others with their recovery journey. Chad and I speak either together or separately on podcasts, organizational events, and group meetings. Our story is one of faith, never giving up, and healing with the help of many professionals along the way.

My passions are sharing our story to help other families have hope and resources that they will need, fundraising for nonprofits that I am passionate about, such as Meals on Wheels, Grace to Change, and many others. I will soon be a proud board member of Latter House Decor, which helps victims of domestic violence start anew. I also love to lead donation drives for low-income seniors at Mother’s Day and Christmas Wish Lists, among others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it certainly has not, but if it were, I would not have learned the valuable lessons that I have in order to help others. The reasons for my book exemplify this. We made so many mistakes along the way that I point out in my book so that maybe others can learn without making the same ones. The most valuable lesson I have learned all along in my life is that your friends are so vitally important to you. They support you when you need it most, you are there for them when they experience the worst, and you grow so close that you form the strongest bond of all. Also, I was incredibly blessed with my firm standing with me all the way, even when our struggle was splashed on the front page of the Dallas Morning News. Not many would have been so supportive.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Director of Community Services at Haiman Hogue, PLLC, a faith-based Estate Planning/Elder Law Firm in Frisco. I set up all the speaking engagements, live events, webinars, and community events that we participate in or sponsor, including fundraisers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Well, actually, I believe in miracles, not luck. I have seen many in my life, especially in the past 15 years.

1. The accident that my son had kills 95% of people at the scene.

2. Heroin addiction kills or keeps 87% addicted permanently;

3. Chad’s heart valve, which was damaged with endocarditis due to the IV drug use, is now completely healed, and

4. Our family bond is stronger than ever.
