Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Odom.

Taylor Odom

Hi Taylor, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always had a love for all art and design; I was very shy and quiet, so art was always a hobby of mine. I graduated from Refugio Texas High School in 2017 and went to Del Mar College Center for Economic Development and obtained my beginner, intermediate, and advanced certificates for AutoCad in early 2019. From late 2019 through the beginning of 2020, I became a drafter but was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic; during that time, I found an online schooling program for a Graphic Design Certification at the New York Institute of Art and Design and decided to pursue my career in that direction. I enjoy helping make people’s ideas come to life and being able to help create anything that comes to their mind, whether it be a personal project or to help with a small business. Since pursuing graphic designing, I’ve been able to create things to help with some of my close friends’ businesses/companies, and I really enjoy what I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, one of the biggest struggles is the COVID-19 pandemic and my mental health. Before the pandemic, I was diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I was attending my graphic design classes online but began to fall behind due to the pandemic, making my mental health worse. It was very hard for me to find my motivation and passion during this time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
As of right now, I am an administrative assistant for Sentinel Integrity Solutions and am also still attending my online classes.

I believe what sets me apart from others in my work is that I try to really understand what the person is envisioning and try to understand what kind of personality they have so I can put that into what they’re wanting, whether it be a logo for their business or something personal for themselves.

What makes you happy?
Nature, because although it can be unpredictable, there is always some sort of beauty and serenity it creates. I like to think nature creates it own art every day for us, especially the sunrise and sunset.
