Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi Philippson.
Jodi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I fell in love with food tours back in 2011 and realized Dallas didn’t have one. I’ve always loved showing off my city. I believe Dallas has fascinating neighborhoods and amazing food but that it isn’t an easy city to visit if you don’t already know it or have a friend here. I founded Food Tours of America to be that friend that takes you through our neighborhoods. Visitors feels welcome and locals love exploring their city with our team of tour guides. Food Tours of America quickly became the #1 Food & Drink activity on TripAdvisor, which we’re really proud of. We also became a private event company doing our original food tours for team-building and corporate events and also customizing high-end corporate events and dine-around throughout Dallas with executive vans and buses.
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve always done an amazing job with our team, our partner restaurants, and our tour guests. I would say that our biggest challenge is getting the word out. We’re a small company and the world of internet marketing is intimidating and it changes often so it’s difficult to know if we’re doing everything we can and should to reach people who would love to attend our tours.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I always like to say that we feed people, entertain them, and make them happy. Our walking restaurant sightseeing tours are narrated by local tour guides with culture, history, trivia, and sightseeing. With up to fourteen people on a tour, the groups are intimate offer plenty of opportunities to connect over food and drinks. We visit 4-6 restaurants per tour and each experience is enough for lunch or dinner. Alcohol pairing is available as well. We have tours in Uptown, Downtown (with JFK history) and coming soon Deep Ellum.
We are also a private event company doing walking food tours, and dine-around with sightseeing and bus transportation for corporate team-building events, convention attendees, bachelorette parties, etc. Our corporate clients love the that there is so much built in time for networking and relationship building and also that we can feed and entertain their group for under three hours and under $100.
We are most proud of our place as the #1 Food & Drink activity on Tripadvisor. Every one of our 500+ five star reviews means the world to us!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love Dallas and am really proud of the way the food, arts and culture scene continues to get better and better!
