Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Heidi Kay Begay.
Hi Dr. Begay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a professional flutist by trade, and I have my doctorate in flute performance (2018). I teach professionally, and my career took a complete 180 at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic. I was awarded a job outside of Shanghai, China, and that was to start in July 2020, but because of the pandemic, my career plans changed. Due to these events, I decided to take my podcast (Flute 360) and pivot with it to venture into entrepreneurial opportunities. Because of this, students from across the globe started working with me through subscriptions, group masterclasses, private lessons, and more. Also, I was working with partnering sponsorships through the podcast, too. Due to my podcast “catching” people’s eyes in the music industry, a lot of folks wanted to learn what I did to make this happen. Therefore, my other three businesses unfolded, and this includes: J&K Productions, Red House Productions, and The Pivoting Musician.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle that my husband and I have faced (while building the businesses) has been finding a balance of time and energy between our professional and personal lives. Being that we are married and also co-owners, it has been interesting to see us evolve into these different roles, while maintaining and thriving in our marriage.
Another struggle has been learning how to do business well since this isn’t something we saw for our careers when we first started off. We didn’t come from families who were entrepreneurs, so we had to learn the ropes on our own. We are very grateful for the few people who’ve come alongside us to help when we’ve asked for it.

Red House Productions: We help podcasters to launch, grow, and monetize their podcast! Podcasters learn how to build a show with purpose so they can add value and connect with people in their communities.
J&K Productions: We help musicians with their music recording and live concert needs.
The Pivoting Musician: Heidi plus her colleague, Garrett Hope, help musicians to function as a business. Musicians gain the tools that they didn’t receive in music school so they can build fulfilling creative & financial opportunities for themselves.
Flute 360: We help the modern-day flutist to feel empowered on and off the stage. Flute 360 strives to help musicians holistically find their unique voice, and we serve not only the artist but the human and the entrepreneur, too!
Any big plans?
We cannot wait to expand our business where we hire more employees to help us scale the businesses.
