Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Rivera.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Puerto Rico, I always knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field. I was obsessed with how the brain and the nervous system work, and I thought that Pediatric Neurology was going to be my future. Fast forward to my first year in college studying Human Biology, one of my closest little cousins was diagnosed with autism – I used to spend a lot of time with him, so it was a learning lesson for us all to have a family member on the spectrum. Long story short, my family went on a more holistic route to support him, and one of his providers was a Pediatric Chiropractor that I got the chance to meet and see how he worked with neurodivergent kids, and it absolutely blew my mind. And at that moment, I fell in love with how impactful Chiropractic is for the entire family.
I knew right in that moment what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I started Chiropractic school in 2016 at Life University in Marietta, Georgia. It was such a wonderful experience learning a more holistic health frame and how impacted your health can be if you take care of yourself in the preconception period to have healthy babies and create a whole new generation for your kids. I decided to dive deeper in pediatrics, perinatal, and pregnancy, taking electives and attending seminars to help me support them further.
Through the certifications from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, ICPA, I am a Webster-certified chiropractor, which means I have extra knowledge and skills to provide excellent care for pregnant people and help them in their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. I also see babies and kids – even kids that have autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological or any developmental struggles. I am beyond proud of my ability to help people live a healthier life and feel good long-term, supporting the body’s innate ability to heal and function optimally.
I love learning, so in my spare time, you’ll catch me reading books, either educational or novels. One of my favorite book series is Harry Potter; I literally grew up reading the books and watching the movies as they came out, so the memories are very fond.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. A year before starting Chiropractic school, my grandfather passed away from colon cancer, and that was really hard. However, it continued to add fuel in my passion to help people live a healthier life. Ever since that, I have lost family members very dear to my heart, and grief is no joke – pair that with a very heavy load of academics, and you have the perfect recipe for major stress.
Chiropractic school was challenging at first, but I found a good rhythm with the workload all while living in the US for the first time, making new friends, and unlearning so much from conventional health care. Oh, and not to forget that my last year in school was the pandemic year.
Suffice to say, it was a lot. Luckily, during school, I met amazing lifelong friends and great mentors who inspired me. And it was extremely rewarding at the end, being able to walk across the stage with nothing but pure passion to be of service of others through Chiropractic care.
As you know, we’re big fans of Vital Healing Chiropractic. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I started Vital Healing in January of 2024 as an in-home practice. I work with a lot of families; most of them have multiple babies/kids, and a lot of them mentioned how convenient it would be for them to have me go to their home and get the whole family adjusted without the hassle of getting all the kids ready and commute to get much-needed care. Nothing else needed to be said; I wanted to make chiropractic care as less stressful as possible, and the consensus was clear. I now see families and individuals alike in the comfort of their home, and I bring all necessary tools to serve them.
My mission is to empower families through personalized, in-home holistic care. My chiropractic practice is dedicated to foster wellness, restore balance, and nurture the innate ability the body has to heal itself and create life. We are born with the ability to create, sustain, and birth new life into the world. I believe health should be a natural state of being, and we should be able to live life with purpose, connection, and full of energy. The ultimate goal is to serve families in this preconception period in order to have a body ready for pregnancy, birth and the postpartum. Additionally, getting adjusted in the perinatal and pregnancy period sets your kids up for better health in the long run.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Certainly! Western medicine tends to like to focus on everything that’s wrong with you. There is an innate intelligence within us all that knows how to heal. It needs no help, just no interference. Which is exactly what the chiropractic adjustment focuses on.
I believe that true health extends beyond the absence of symptoms to encompass a harmonious balance of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. By emphasizing the importance of nurturing relationships, embracing natural elements like sunshine and fresh air, and promoting holistic lifestyle choices, including nutrition and movement, I strive to empower individuals and families to unlock their innate potential for vitality and resilience.
