Today we’d like to introduce you to Keya MClain.
Hi Keya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in both St. Louis and Los Angeles, where my passion for literature was nurtured by my great aunt, a librarian. Despite becoming a young mother at 18, I remained determined to pursue my educational and career goals. I obtained my Paralegal Certificate and Associates in Applied Science in Paralegal Studies from St. Louis Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and a Master of Arts in Legal Analysis from Webster University.
Over the past 23 years, I’ve held various roles in the legal field, including data entry clerk, legal secretary, legal assistant, and Assistant Case Manager for the District Court in St. Louis, Missouri. Additionally, I’ve served as a Paralegal Instructor for several colleges.
Eleven years ago, I embarked on an entrepreneurial journey, initially starting as a life coach before transitioning to a self-publishing coach. Currently, my focus is primarily on being a Healing Pen Coach, specializing in journaling coaching. I firmly believe in the power of writing to heal, using journaling prompts, structured writing schedules, and tailored techniques to guide individuals in their journey of self-expression and growth.
Through hosting workshops, private VIP courses, online group courses, and tailored sessions, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals harness the transformative potential of journaling. My own experience with writing as a tool for achieving goals, navigating life’s challenges, and expressing myself has fueled my passion for helping others discover the healing and empowerment that comes from putting pen to paper.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was a young teen mom, financially struggling, with limited resources, and not emotionally, mentally, or spiritually sound, but committed to growing. Those challenges did not hinder me from seeking success and becoming successful.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The work I do is more than just a job; it’s a passion that fuels me every day. Writing has been my guiding light through some of the most difficult and challenging times in my life, providing solace, clarity, and a sense of purpose. It’s also been a source of celebration and joy during moments of triumph and success.
In my day job, I’ve found fulfillment in the substantive writing tasks that allow me to engage both my analytical and creative sides. However, as a poet, author, coach, speaker, and podcast host, writing takes on a different dimension—it’s a welcome break from the monotony of the daily grind. It’s where I get to fully express my creativity, share my insights, and connect with others on a deeper level.
Whether I’m crafting poetry, penning articles, or hosting a podcast episode, writing serves as both a sanctuary and a playground—a space where I can explore, innovate, and recharge. It’s a constant reminder of the power of words to inspire, heal, and transform lives, including my own.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I firmly believe that support and collaboration are essential catalysts for personal and professional growth. Throughout my journey, I’ve experienced firsthand the transformative power of working and partnering with others. Not only does collaboration provide opportunities to learn and connect, but it also enables individuals, organizations, and communities to fulfill their potential in ways that may not be possible alone.
My own success and growth have been greatly influenced by the support and collaboration of others. Whether it’s been through mentorship, teamwork, or partnerships, I’ve seen how coming together with a shared vision can lead to remarkable outcomes. I’m passionate about the idea that through increased collaboration and support, more people can excel and break through barriers to success.
For me, support has always been a deeply appreciated form of showing up. It’s not just about achieving individual goals; it’s about lifting others as we climb and creating a network of mutual support that propels everyone forward.
