Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Fullbright.
Hi Candace, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely.
It started with a creative spirit, having the love of art, constructing and designing things. I also have the passion for protecting others and their assets.
I was, and not to boast or brag, but I was one of those over-the-top, overachiever employees. I was always on time, always lending the helping hand to everyone, working overtime, and just going above and beyond for every employer I’ve ever worked for. And no matter what, for whatever reason I was always the underdog that ended up on the chop and block. As a child, I had always wanted to start my own business so I could share with the world the same love for art and design that I had, and I took numerous business and marketing classes. So, the moment one employer put me on the chop and block and told me that I’d never be successful, my entire being took it as a challenge to start my own business, which was CU Marketing Services.
I started my marketing business mid-Covid outbreak, and it’s been successful ever since. This also, in return, helped me to be able to release my skill sets with others not only to assist in their personal growth but in the growth of their businesses as well.
Shortly after starting my marketing business, I started my security business MAAS DFW (Modern Access & Security DFW), which specializes in commercial installation and service.
Doing marketing for one of my co-employers allowed me to see that I also had a passion in security. (Of course, that’d make sense since I love to protect others)
Watching and learning more and more about how cameras, alarms, and access control worked led me to set out to become a technician to learn more about the dynamics of a security system. With another company/employer, they allowed me to go out into the field and install program, and configure those security devices. Now, continuing with 4 years in the industry, I’ve been able to work with well-known integrators and vendors such as Verkada, Brivo, Rhombus, Alarm.com, Avigilon, Bolide, AcTi, etc.
MAAS DFW is coming to the market soon, and it’ll be huge. I’ve been slowly releasing tidbits here and there to let businesses know who we are. I’ve even had the pleasure of marketing MAAS DFW on the radio back in 2022. I think being a female in the Security and IT industry is not heard of very often, so I’m ready to change the game with this one!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all.
My marketing business was definitely a lot easier to start than my security business.
Startin your own marketing business doesn’t cost much; it just requires a lot of your time and attention. As for the security business, let’s face it, I’m a female in a man’s world/industry… they don’t take that very well lol. The respect I get comes from me knowing what I’m providing, which is security and peace of mind. Most IT departments or decision-makers are usually standoffish until I get into the dynamics of what a system can/can’t do.
Like, “Oh ok, well, your cameras are dropping offline? Do you have enough bandwidth to support all of your cameras?” Or maybe the cameras never came online. “Have you opened ports for those devices?” “Did you know that specific integrators allow your access control system to arm and disarm your security panels?” Those are just a few things that I point out to decision-makers in discussion that change their whole outlook. But once that guard is down, it’s smooth sailing from there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What do I do? I continue to master my craft daily.
I enjoy improving productivity and success rates in people and businesses. I also enjoy bringing financial & physical security to the table by redefining and/or designing and delivering new and different processes, services, tools and resources.
Security & Marketing have one major factor in common; it’s always changing.
To me, what I do is an art.
What do I specialize in?
I specialize in communication and customer service. People love me because I am authentic, and I keep everything real and transparent.
I am known for my assistance to others, my customer service and how I teach.
Assistance can be anything from lending a helping hand, providing tips to others to help themselves to prosper or just even being a good listener.
I’m going to combine the last two questions. What am I most proud of, and what sets me apart?…
1. I am proud of myself for still being my genuine self. That’s what also sets me apart because we are all in the business of selling something to the next person, and there is a system that everyone has to be this robotic, upbeat character from a lost land that I don’t believe in being. I like to be myself. I feel that anybody can tell if you’re faking attitude and I feel that faking who you are is a representation of what you’re selling or the company you’re selling for. I feel like if you’re genuinely happy in your line of work, that that excitement will show itself. Again, transparency is huge. Being genuine is huge.
2. What I am proud of and what sets me apart is allowing giving and allowing an opportunity for the next person. If there is someone smarter than myself great. Teach me. If there is someone that wants to know and learn what I know. Great. I’ll teach you.
There should be no reason why nobody can’t learn anything. I’ve seen and dealt with so many people that felt like people who were smarter than them were considered a threat, and that’s just ridiculous. On the other hand, I’ve seen the complete opposite where people would refuse to teach someone what they know so that they didn’t “become smarter than them,” and I find that logic just equally ridiculous. If I know something that you don’t know, I will do my very best to get everyone around me up to speed. And if the scenario was flipped, I’d expect the same. We’re a team and a team is to be supportive of one another.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Well, as a Christian, I like to keep my morals and faith intact before all things. I’m always seeking God and looking for ways to better myself first and then others, not only through the Bible but through other books from ministers like Joyce Meyer. I like to read a lot of books that pertains to renewing and reinventing the mind and the thoughts that we encounter… this I feel leads the mind not only to decluttering it but building a leadership mindset. I also like to listen to the digital audio of the book Rich Dad Poor Dad at least once a year. I was given the book a few years back before starting CU Marketing Services and I just immediately clicked with the mindset of the rich dad. This book helps me in moments when I feel like excuses are trying to surface and instead flips my perspective of things. Instead of asking myself, “Why can’t I?” Or telling myself that I can’t do something, I ask myself, “How can I?” Or “What can I do?”
