Recognizing the significant underrepresentation of women of color in mainstream media, Ameerah, an avid reader, experienced traveler, and dedicated professional, was inspired to create a platform that does more than just recognize women of color; it celebrates their achievements, stories, and unique perspectives. Her vision was clear: to create a space that not only acknowledges but also elevates the voices and experiences of women of color, creating a community of empowerment and inspiration. 

What started as a simple idea – a pop-up brunch to bring together local women – quickly transformed into a powerful movement. Brunch and Slay has become a symbol of empowerment, connectivity, and inspiration, lauded for its impact and reach. 

The initiative’s heart and soul were reflected in the Brunch and Slay Podcast, which earned recognition from Apple as a top business podcast during its run and amplified voices that inspired and drove change. The podcast’s success, coupled with an overwhelming response from top brands, underscored the need for more representation and diversity in the marketing sphere. 

Leveraging her extensive experience in marketing and sales with prominent organizations like FedEx and the private college and auto industry, Ameerah Saine recognized this opportunity and harnessed it. 

Her expertise and vision have been pivotal in shaping what Brunch and Slay is today: a parent company of two forward-thinking subsidiaries, B A S Media and BENTO Marketing, independent marketing agencies that champion inclusivity and innovation in every campaign and project. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the journey has not been smooth, but it has been profoundly rewarding. Building B A S Media from the ground up has been a challenging yet fulfilling. Like any venture starting from scratch, we’ve faced our share of trials and triumphs. One of our initial struggles was assembling the right team—finding talented individuals who not only possess the necessary skills but also share our vision and drive. Attracting clients and building brand awareness were also significant challenges, especially as a self-financed entity. We’ve experienced both lean periods and times of prosperity, but these experiences have only strengthened our resolve and honed our strategies. Today, B A S Media is growing robustly, and we stand stronger and more resilient than ever. The path has not always been easy, but the rewards of seeing our hard work come to fruition have been immeasurably gratifying.
