Daily Inspiration: Meet Julian Bell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julian Bell.

Julian Bell

Hi Julian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started only a few years ago with only a few YouTube videos to watch and a small Sony A6400. But I can tell you that when I started, I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to use my camera. So, I used my environment and started to walk around Dallas to take photos/videos and practice. It wasn’t until people started to see my potential and consistency that they started to trust me with certain projects.

From there, I only upgraded the camera when I needed to and slowly began to build my collection of gear. Being consistent over the years has allowed me to experience things I never dreamed of doing so far. But you can still catch me practicing around Dallas from time to time because I still want to continue to get better.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I could say that it was.

But I’m human like anyone else, and from time to time, I have my own struggles. At times, I can feel stagnant and like I’m not doing enough until I take on projects, and then I feel like I’m doing too much.

The biggest challenge for me is to make sure I don’t compare my journey to anyone else’s. This whole road is one long, continuous journey, and it does have its ups and downs from time to time. But God hasn’t brought me this far just for me to talk myself out of my own blessings.

So, I try to take everything one day at a time, one project at a time, and I try to remember where I put my lens cap in the process.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in film, commercial, and social media production. I don’t just press record and capture the moment. Instead, I try to carefully craft a story to the best of my abilities, and I share this journey with others along the way.

I work with my clients and my own creative projects, as well as positive regularly on social media sharing guidance, comedic relief, and a deep dive into my story.

I’m excited not only to see myself grow in my work but also to be able to look back and see how much I’ve changed over the years. (In a good way, I hope.)

I am excited at the idea of taking things just one step further as I continue to push myself.

Being a Director of Photography, or DP for short, is a path that requires not only focus and discipline. But also, you’ll have to be honest with yourself and the vision that you have for your projects. People want to support and trust those who are openly passionate about what they do. I’m entering a stage in life where I’m starting to be known and recommended for my work regularly. But I still have a lot left to accomplish, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The act of creating something from nothing but an idea makes me happy. Even if someone else has done it before, they weren’t me. I have a unique perspective on life due to the adventures and travels I’ve had so far.

Being able to share this skill set and mindset with others and watching the decisions they make is more than rewarding enough on its own.

I’ve always wanted to make movies and small skits my entire childhood. So, to find myself doing what I’ve always dreamed of… it kind of feels like home in a way.
