Meet Darrell Robinson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrell Robinson.

Darrell Robinson

Hi Darrell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography began way back in high school when I took a class my Junior year. It was 1998, and we learned using film cameras and developing film in darkrooms. I loved the fact that I was the only one in the world who captured that very moment at that time. It was so fascinating to me. From that point forward I took a digital photography class my junior year of college and had just always had a point-and-shoot camera of some sort with me at all times. Many years later, when I learned I was going to be a father for the first time, I bought an entry-level DSLR camera to capture all the moments my son would have, and that then turned into a business. In 2020, Nikon named me as one of their “20 Most Inspiring Creators of 2020,” and I did a camera giveaway for them as well. Since then, I’ve become a mentor to many photographers locally and truly enjoy the craft!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say this path has been smooth, but I strive when I’m presented with a challenge. The pandemic slowed things down for sure, sometimes when I show up to a location to do a photoshoot someone or security may ask us to leave – all you can do is pivot and adjust!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I enjoy all types of photography and specialize in portraits, headshots, products, beauty, and fashion. I’m most proud of becoming a Nikon Creator in 2020 and capturing images seen on sites for Xbox, Playtex Baby, ESPN, Dude Perfect, Nikon, 7-Eleven, and many more. What sets me apart is the fact that I have my own style. I don’t follow the trends – I do what I like and have been able to create a style and look that people come to me for.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Join a community and learn. Learn your camera first before you go out and buy everything you see online. Attend workshops, go to photography conventions, visit your local camera store – continue to learn and create your style.
