Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Garcia-Ponce
Hi Alejandra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Alejandra and I am a proud Mexican woman, born in Matamoros, Mexico, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio when I was five. However, my parents made sure I never lost my mother tongue and beautiful culture. I moved to Dallas/Fort Worth during the pandemic and struggled to find my community for a couple years. I decided to turn my personal struggle into a positive opportunity to create something meaningful. By founding the Latina Social Club DFW, I was able to provided a platform for not only myself but also for other Latinas who may be seeking a similar sense of belonging and support. My initiative played a significant role in fostering connections, empowering women, and enriching the cultural landscape of the DFW community.
The Latina Social Club DFW began as a passion project of mine because I wanted to create a space where Latina women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area could come together to connect, support each other, and celebrate their culture. It started with just a few members on an app called Geneva, and has since then grown into 400+ members on Instagram.
As the club grew, I welcomed Carolina as my Dallas Social Ambassador and Zaira my Fort Worth Social Ambassador, we began organizing events, such as pilates workouts, coffee and Loteria night mixers, brunches, dinners and hikes. We also started a social media presence to reach more Latinas, community partners and BIPOC/Latino small owned businesses in the community and share information about our events and initiatives.
Over a short period of time, the Latina Social Club DFW has become a hub for Latina women come together and build meaningful relationships. We’ve created a supportive community where members can share their experiences and uplift each other.
We’re always looking for new ways to empower Latina women in our community and make a positive impact on their lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While the journey of founding the Latina Social Club DFW has been incredibly rewarding, it hasn’t been without its challenges. Like any endeavor, there were obstacles along the way that required perseverance, creativity, and support to overcome.
One of the initial struggles was simply getting the word out and attracting members to the club. Building awareness and generating interest in a new organization can be challenging, especially in a large and diverse metropolitan area like Dallas-Fort Worth. We had to be strategic in our outreach efforts, leveraging social media, community events, and word-of-mouth referrals to expand our reach and attract new members.
Despite these challenges, one of the most remarkable aspects of our journey has been the incredible support we’ve received from other Latino/BIPOC organizations and the broader Dallas-Fort Worth community. From day one, we felt welcomed and embraced by individuals and groups who shared our vision of empowering Latinas and celebrating our culture. Whether it was through collaborative events, shared resources, or simply words of encouragement, the support of our fellow organizations and community members has been invaluable in helping us navigate challenges and achieve our goals.
Overall, while there have been bumps along the road, the overwhelming support and solidarity from the Latino/BIPOC community and the Dallas-Fort Worth community at large have made our journey both fulfilling and successful. It’s a testament to the strength of community and the power of unity in working towards a common goal.

The Latina Social Club DFW is a vibrant community organization dedicated to empowering and connecting Latina women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We provide a welcoming space where Latinas from all backgrounds can come together to build relationships, share experiences, and celebrate our culture.
At the heart of our organization is a commitment to fostering sisterhood and support among our members. We host a variety of events and activities designed to facilitate connections and personal growth, including, social gatherings ranging from coffee meetups, dinner parties, brunches to hikes and girls night out.
What sets us apart from other organizations is our focus on creating a sense of belonging and empowerment for Latina women while supporting the DFW community and small owned business.

What are your plans for the future?
As we look to the future, my primary goal for the Latina Social Club DFW is to continue expanding our impact and reach within the Dallas-Fort Worth community. We’re excited to further strengthen our programming and offerings to better serve the needs and interests of our members.
Some of our plans include:
Expansion of Events: We aim to diversify and expand our event offerings to provide even more opportunities for our members to connect, learn, and grow. This may include hosting larger events, partnering with other organizations for collaborative events,
Community Outreach: We’re committed to reaching out to underserved Latina populations within the DFW area and ensuring that our organization is accessible and inclusive to all. This may involve partnering with local community centers, schools, and nonprofits to provide resources and support to those in need.
Online Presence: We plan to further leverage digital platforms to expand our reach and engage with our community online. This may include enhancing our website, and increasing our social media presence.
Collaborations and Partnerships: We’re excited to explore new collaborations and partnerships with other organizations and businesses that share our values and mission. By working together, we can amplify our impact and create even greater opportunities for Latina women in the DFW area.
Overall, we’re incredibly optimistic about the future of the Latina Social Club DFW and are committed to continuing to serve as a beacon of empowerment, support, and celebration for Latina women in our community.
