Daily Inspiration: Meet David Darrigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Darrigan.

David Darrigan

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Kava Bar was born out of the vision of having a social space that did not include alcohol or substances that intoxicate you and leave your feeling regretful. Knowing there are natural plants that leave you feeling better, not worse, the idea was born to bring this social sober bar to North Texas. We all had hope in what CBD could do for us but are left to feel little to no effect from it. With Kava and our other drinks, the effects are REAL and have been around for centuries in other areas of the world.

Our first location was in Denton, TX. The community has been unbelievable. Soon, we had patrons driving from over an hour away, all asking for us to spread the love and expand to other areas of DFW. The next natural spot for us was in North Dallas (Addison), and that location has truly been a game-changer for our Kava community. We have members that treat the bar like their home and the other guests as their family. They come up with their own drinks, even nights, and introduce more family and friends that become part of our tribe.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The roads have been smooth overall, thanks to our amazing customer base. We are a product of their passion and dedication. Our challenge (which we don’t consider negative) is educating our guests on these powerful plants, how we make them into beverages, and the benefits they produce. Kava does not taste good in its natural form, and that can be a challenge. Most that feel its benefit let it become an acquired taste. For those that do not care for the taste, we can mask the earthy bitterness with creams or juices that do make for a tasteful treat.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My background is in Emergency Medicine. I still practice Emergency Medicine Full time. In the ER, I have seen the detriments that drugs and alcohol can produce, which played a part in inspiring me to find a natural alternative to help relax. This is not about me, though. What sets us apart is being able to bring these amazing plants to the right communities, and for that, we are blessed.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would encourage anyone to give us a try. We are open from early in the morning until late at night. We serve great coffee for those that don’t want to venture into the kava world yet but would like to still enjoy the sober social atmosphere. We have different each nights (game night, bingo, karaoke, open mic, and much more). You are sure to meet new friends and feel welcomed in a safe environment. We would love to welcome you to our tribe. We hope to have more locations in the future to continue to lead the social sober movement in DFW.
