Daily Inspiration: Meet Lynda Kingsley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynda Kingsley.

Lynda Kingsley

Hi Lynda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always a creative kid, crafting and sewing, but never really had any fine art classes in High School or my first go-round in college. But after owning a family business and raising kids for many years in NM, I decided it was time for me to do what I had wanted to do for many years- watercolor and a move to TX.

I started back at school at both Collin and UNT and graduated with a degree in studio art and watercolor. That was my start in fine art, then teaching and painting, and today, I’m one of our directors at a well-established art gallery here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of my biggest struggles are not related to the creative process but the time needed to promote and market your art! Painting is only 1/2 of the equation at best. Finishing artworks, ordering products, shows, fairs, and social media all take a lot of time.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I’m best known for are my 3-D Organics on a 2-D plane. Generally, they revolve around flowers, leaves, and seed pods. I typically do 3-D organic watercolors, 2-D organic watercolors and collages, and watercolor batik. I love watercolors, and especially the many new pigments from minerals and rocks that granulate and are earthy!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My 2 main professors at UNT helped me a lot- David Collins and Josh West. They helped me see I didn’t need to follow old tired Victorian rules for watercolors. I could use them with abandon and with other media, anyway I wanted to!
