Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Murphy.
Hi Erica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started on a leap of faith! I’ve always loved design, home decor, graphic design, decorating, styling, and creativity. When I first started my Interior Design business, Erica L. Murphy Interiors, I wanted to be able to combine all of the things I loved and figure out a unique way to use my gifts while being of service to people. I wanted to share my creativity in a way that created a space for innovative interior design services. After trial and error, I believe I have found my niche within this industry by creating custom e-designs for my clients and also offering a curated catalog of home decor and furnishings that my customers, who also love home decor, can shop ’til they drop, for their home! I believe this is just the beginning of my exciting journey. Interior design has always been my first love. My passion to help people and my passion for design are the reasons why I created Erica L. Murphy Interiors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, it has not been a smooth road. I had an idea of what this journey would be like, and it looks nothing like I thought, but in a good way, in a God way. What I mean by that is, if everything went as I had planned in my head, or if every step of the way was smooth, there would be no need for faith. This journey has not only been a challenge as a creative, as an entrepreneur, but it’s also been a challenge of faith. The biggest struggle in my business journey and my faith is letting go of the outcome. Overcoming challenges can be a little easier when we let go of how we thought it would be or how we thought it was supposed to happen. I think that’s the beauty of this journey; it’s definitely growing me. In the beginning, I struggled with staying in my lane. I knew I had a business idea that was unlike what I’ve seen in the interior design industry, so I started to change my services to align more with what everyone else is doing in the design industry, but it didn’t work out for me. To me, that was my sign to stay in my lane as far as doing what I know in my heart to do or create and not struggle with trying to just do what others are doing. I’ve learned I’m not wrong in my journey, although it may be a little different, a little unconventional, that could be the very reason why God has me on this journey, to be different, to stand out. For anyone reading this, if you’re like me and have the internal struggle to do what you see others doing because you feel like your ideas are unheard of, keep doing you! God could very well be using you (and me) to pioneer something; keep thinking BIG, and don’t let the struggles along the way stop you. (and I won’t either!)
