Today we’d like to introduce you to Jana Spillers.
Hi Jana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I spent the first 17 years of my career in Neonatal ICU, caring for the sickest of the sick newborns and their families. When I began having my own children, I experienced the lack of support that exists for families out in the community. That realization was the inspiration for Bishop Babies, a full-service perinatal education concierge. I progressively added more and more services, from car seat installation to lactation, to help as many families as possible. In 2021, I decided to leave my primary role as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in a busy county hospital to pursue private practice. The Dallas location of Wonderfully Made Wellness Sanctuary opened in December of 2022.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a working mother always creates challenges. We are constantly juggling childcare snafus, sick children, and extracurricular activities while pursuing our careers. Working for myself definitely has perks, though. I can respond to patients and clients from anywhere, even the beach or homeschool co-op! When needed, I can also serve patients and clients virtually while caring for my own children.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bishop Babies and Wonderfully Made Wellness Sanctuary?
My two roles fall under two different but interrelated umbrellas: Bishop Babies and Wonderfully Made Wellness Sanctuary.
Bishop Babies is a full-service educational concierge providing all the support new families need. I offer everything from New Parent Bootcamps and CPR classes to car seat safety checks and installation.
Wonderfully Made Wellness Sanctuary is a Nurse practitioner-owned and operated holistic family practice. We specialize in infants and toddlers, children, lactation and women’s health. Our focus is intimate patient relationships and root-cause healing. We also offer home visits and 30-90 minute appointments, making us very unique.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned never to assume what people want or need. They will often surprise you.
