Today we’d like to introduce you to Judith Maduh
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story, my journey is a long one, but I want to keep it to a summary.
It all started from the determined and resilient mind of a young little girl who’s witnessed traumatic events and who’s made up her mind/purpose of helping people of all origins, especially ones who’ve been through trauma.
I obtained my nursing degree and worked at several acute care units, but especially in trauma/cosmetics. Working in the trauma unit, I remember then that when rounding on some of my patients, I noticed that some of my patients’ trauma, such as from an unexplained motor vehicle accident or repeat cosmetic procedures, was a call for help. Many of these clients were suffering from mental anguish, some traumatic accidents were assessed to be a suicidal attempt. I allowed myself to come into a patient’s world briefly, and it opened my eyes to a tip of these sufferings they were going through mentally.
Back then, on the unit, we would consult psychiatric services, and at times, it would take days to get a provider, even via virtual space. Patients often are then discharged from the hospital with only follow-up resources, for which many of them never followed through, as evidenced by the same patient’s repeat admissions for similar trauma. It was becoming a revolving door, and clients’ mental health needs were not being met. I made the decision to be a part of fulfilling this need, thus I went back to school to obtain my mental health nurse practitioner education and licensure.
Since then, I have been working with clients across the lifespan but especially caring for clients who are dealing with trauma or traumatic past. I have worked at other organizations, acquiring several experiences, including training with some of the best Child-adolescent psychiatrists in North Texas!
I now serve clients all over Texas and Washington State with the hope of increasing outreach across the nation. Please reach out to me, or many other mental health experts out there, if you or someone you know is dealing with mental health struggles, I hope to put that lasting smile on your face, just as I’ve done with many others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road to finally start seeing clients via my clinic- Graceful Minds Health, PLLC. In fact, it’s still a work in progress, but with positive hope 🙂
One of the major challenge, especially as a nurse practitioner (NP) in Texas, where there is limited NP practice independence, is:
In Texas, the NP must secure a medical doctor (MD), who must collaborate with them, in order to actually help clients with medical or mental needs. It was not easy to do so, as, unfortunately, many MDs were exploiting this need by charging outrageous fees to collaborate and support the NP. I count myself lucky and blessed to have a collaborating MD who is not just an excellent teacher but has been genuinely supportive throughout my quest to help folks struggling. I am so grateful.
Another obstacle was securing the clinic’s space, costs, and operating workflow- one that is confidential and highly secured to keep patient information safe.
Another challenge was getting credentialed with different insurance plans, then billing for these services also.
Outreach and marketing for clientele is another challenge; while there’s a need, some of the clients needing help are not able to connect to the right marketplace to find the provider in order to get the mental health services they need.
We’ve been impressed with Graceful Minds Health, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a mental health service organization; via my organization, I serve clients dealing with several mental health struggles, such as Depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood issues, social tension, work/relationship adjustment issues, children school/misconduct issues, trauma/PTSD, women’s health/perinatal mental health struggles…etc.
We serve Children, Adolescents, and Adult population. Our goal is to make mental health services easily accessible to clients. We are proud to offer an appointment within 48 hours of the client’s request, with potential weekends, evenings, and same-day availability!
We are a small private clinic; therefore, every patient here is like a family, and we work with you to fit your lifestyle/schedule needs.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I believe in good luck, but my belief in good luck is back by: 1. Preparedness and 2. Opportunity. Both merging can yield this luck!
