Meet Tuan Than

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tuan Than.

Hi Tuan, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Tuan Than, and I’m professionally known as megaTRONG in the music industry.

I was introduced to FL Studio from a cousin (everyone has a story like this, lol) in 2007.

It started off as a hobby, and since 2020, I’ve been able to do it full-time.

Breakbeats and trance music were the genres I made as a noob.

It wasn’t until 2010, when I met my good friend, who’s also a local artist, DollaMalu, that I transitioned over to hip-hop/trap music.

Coming up, I competed (and won) at a few local beat showcasing events such as iStandard, ProducerGrind & Pass The Aux, where I started making a name for myself.

This led me to meet rock tee, a Dallas-native multi-platinum producer.

He played a huge role to help me get my first placement with EMPIRE’s Money Man called “Quick to Judge” in 2020.

While my first placement was great, I wanted to get out there more without ‘getting out there.’

So, I started posting beats on YouTube and BeatStars to build my online audience.

I uploaded anything and everything I made, whether it was trap, R&B, EDM, soul, or afrobeat.

Doing so, I was able to meet many different artists and producers from around the world, having my music online.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Just like life, our careers have challenges and obstacles that we have to overcome.

There have definitely been times where I question if what I’m doing is the right move.

It took a cool 10 years for me to be ‘decent’ at making beats.

I thought winning in beat battles and meeting producers who I admired was going to change my life.

It doesn’t work like that; you REALLY have to put in the work.

When I got furloughed in 2020, I had no choice but to go all in on music.

For all of 2020 and 2021, I uploaded a beat almost every single day.

It can be discouraging when you put so much time and effort into something and see very little RIO.

Now I see that it was really sharpening my skills.

Being an introvert, it was hard for me to show my face but then I realized that literally nobody cares.

Since the beginning of 2024, I started showing my face in videos.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I produce music, specifically hip-hop and trap beats.

I created the empty canvas for musical artists.

I’m known for my versatility.

I will make anything and everything if my head and soul is there.

I’m most proud of my mixing and sound selection.

Being versatile sets me apart from my peers.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’ve been into cooking lately.

As a Vietnamese-American who recently visited the homeland, I’ve been studying and learning about the Vietnamese culture and the foods.
