Hi Jennifer, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Many years ago, I began my career in the retail industry and loved every minute of it! From styling women to look their best to merchandising the product, it was definitely a part of me and my creative eye. As life often does, there were other priorities as I started my family that required me to take a different path. I went into the banking and corporate world for many years to make ends meet. As I began to look and reflect on my next chapter and where I was in my life, I decided to retire and get back to what I truly love doing. I began to look into owning my own women’s fashion boutique. Apricot Lane Boutique crossed my path as an opportunity, and as I began to research the company, it felt like home. Apricot Lane allows an amazing opportunity where the boutique is individual, small business-owned, and you can curate your own assortment, all while having the support and expertise of a national franchise. Lastly, deciding on a location was definitely key for starting a business. Downtown Celina, Texas, is a one-of-a-kind, small town yet rapidly growing city that affords business owners loyal and local support from the city, chamber, and fellow community.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As with every start-up business, there are definitely struggles and various up-and-down feelings along the way. From securing your location and your financing, negotiating the lease contract, determining appropriate marketing tactics, to everything in between, it is a tremendous amount of information to digest, and many requirements needed in order to finalize your business. What got me through the hardest times was knowing I was in God’s hands and that he had blessed me with this opportunity. There was no turning back!

Every small business owner should join their city’s Chamber of Commerce, as well as get involved in city events and other small business owner networking groups. Being a part of the community and supporting the community around you is key to your success and builds relationships for a lifetime!
