Rising Stars: Meet Paige Olvera

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Paige Olvera.

Paige Olvera

Hi Paige, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

  • My name is Paige, aka Mama Oinkers. I was born in Dallas, TX, and raised in Irving, TX. At 28 years old, I often reflect on my journey and the “realness” of time. As the second oldest of four, we had a rollercoaster upbringing. Each of us has our own memories and trauma, and it has taken me a while to realize that some of the things I grew up thinking were normal, weren’t. This realization has marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
  • Currently, I am an account manager for a childcare marketing agency in Dallas, Texas. We help childcare centers with their digital marketing and advertising. But digital marketing doesn’t stop at my 9 to 5. On my own time, I am a complete digital marketing nerd. I love learning all new things about the ever-changing marketing world, and my goal is to pass that knowledge to small businesses in hopes of growing their online clientele! I also do my own blogging and promotions through my Instagram, Mama Oinkers.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?

  • It has taken me a while to realize that some things I grew up thinking were normal really aren’t. My parents did their best with the tools and knowledge they had, but it created an environment that might be a little odd from the outside looking in. Stepping into the real world, I quickly realized how different my upbringing was from others.
  • Despite overcoming my own struggles in 2017, a new wave of challenges hit me between 2018 and 2021. My fiancé and I lost family members, including our mentor. I watched my childhood home burn before my eyes, losing my childhood cat and every cherished item, including photos, jewelry, and notes from friends. Everything I kept close to my heart was gone. To top it off, we faced the challenges of COVID and had to say goodbye to my fiancé’s beloved non-profit.
  • These adult problems shook my world. Dealing with grief on this scale made me crave guidance or just a moment of respite. That’s when it hit me that this is life, and it’s up to you to decide the next step.
  • After the dark times of COVID, I knew I had to do something. I shared in a previous article about walking out of my job, which opened the door to a new career. That was one of my biggest wins, and I truly love that for me.
  • Now that I’m in this place, I have to unlearn the toxic, trauma-induced responses I grew up thinking were normal. This often leads to a lonely journey because people might not understand your growth. That’s where I am now, learning this new “adult” version of myself. I never want to forget where I came from, but I also don’t want to bring the old version of myself into this new life. I want to carry the wisdom the journey has given me, but without the trauma.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

  • I’m Paige, aka Mama Oinkers, based in DFW. I love to blog about life on my Instagram and am a total Digital Marketing nerd! I love helping small businesses grow by boosting their online presence and staying on top of the ever-evolving marketing world. In my day job, I’m an Account Manager at Rose Marketing Solutions, a Childcare Marketing Agency in Dallas, Texas. Working with a team of super-talented individuals, we’re all about helping childcare owners grow their centers. I also spread positivity, collect Pokemon cards, and enjoy life with my wonderful family!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up.

  • My childhood had its ups and downs, but I did have some good times. The biggest memories that stick out are times spent with my cousins and at my tias’ and tios’ houses. When I was around them, I felt like I could be a kid without any worries. As I got older and started to unpack trauma, I realized how important my tia’s and tio’s are to me. They made their homes feel like a safe place, where I didn’t have to be on guard 24/7, and I hold that close to my heart. I hope to pass that feeling along to my nieces and nephews.
