Check Out Ashley Miller’s Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Miller.

Ashley Miller

Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It all started by giving one of the neighborhood kids a “haircut.”

I was so proud of myself for cutting off probably 20 inches of hair while our parents were off to work one summer- her parents weren’t as excited.

I would go on to high school and pursue a career in nursing, obtaining a certificate in CNA work. I went on to study nursing in college- quickly realizing it was not for me and then ultimately finishing up with a career in art.

I was still dissatisfied even though I had started a mural business, designed beer bottles for a craft beer brewery, and made quite a name for myself back in the Carolinas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever smooth for an artist’s mind, and as Picasso would say, “Works of art aren’t completed; they are abandoned.” This speaks volumes to me because no matter what medium I use, I always see my imperfections.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Now, in my career, I am a cosmetologist.

It goes hand in hand with the color wheel and understanding color on a completely different level. I specialize in blonding and extensions. I also have a hat business where I customize vintage cowboy hats. One moment I’m most proud of would be when I was the featured expert on the show “Pawn Stars.”

They contacted me to come on the show and bring back to life four vintage hats. It’s episode 5 in their new show, “Pawn Stars Do America.”

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
The biggest piece of advice I have for anyone starting out in any career is to “Always Remain Teachable” – that is the true meaning of ART.
