Life & Work with Alegra Green of Southlake, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alegra Green

Hi Alegra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In my early 20s or so, after bouncing from job to job and feeling pretty unfulfilled, I decided kind of on a whim to enroll in cosmetology school. It was there I began to see hair as my calling. After finishing school, an apprenticeship, and a stint as an assistant, I knew I was ready to start my career. That’s when I decided to go independent and launch my brand, Bun.headd.

Since then, I’ve really focused on combing my love for bright, vivid colors with my passion for anime. I’ve built a salon suite that’s not just a nod to my lifelong love of anime, but a safe space for my clients to be themselves. Each color isn’t just about looking good—it’s about giving each of my clients their own magical girl transformation, inside and out.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth working for is ever a smooth road, but that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding! Of course, there are many challenges, but marketing jumps out as the foremost. In a field as saturated as hairstyling, especially when you throw a niche like anime-inspired styles into the mix, it can be tough to keep up with the trends and figure out what people want to see just to stay relevant. Sometimes, it’s stressful trying to ensure that you stand out, but overcoming these challenges is what makes the journey worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As an independent hairstylist, I focus on bright, vivid color and long, luxurious extensions. These services are where my heart is. What makes me unique is how I weave my passion for anime into everything I do—from the colors I create to the décor of my salon suite. But this love for anime isn’t just part of my professional identity; it’s a personal passion that resonates deeply with who I am.

I’m especially proud of creating a welcoming space for clients who share my love for niche, nerdy interests. It’s more than just offering luxury hair services; it’s about building a community where like-minded individuals can openly share their passions and feel embraced. I love talking to my clients about what video games they’re playing, or what happened in their last DnD session. What sets me apart is this dedication not just to exceptional hairstyling, but to making everyone who walks into my salon feel like they belong to something special.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
It might surprise you, but I didn’t always dream of being a hairstylist. I actually fell into this career in my 20s. After getting completely burnt out from my office job and the relentless 9-5 routine, I was ready for a change. Hairstyling seemed like a cool option, almost on a whim. It turned out to be a perfect fit for me—I just hadn’t realized it until I gave it a shot. It’s funny how sometimes you find your passion where you least expect it.
