Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Hamra
Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Raised in Phoenix, Az. Growing up without a mother was hard, A mother who chose to walk away didn’t make for an easy childhood. Thankfully I had a father with grit and tenacity, which pays off much later in life for me.
At the age of 17 I became pregnant with a baby boy by a much older man than me who I later learned had a major drug addiction and anger problem that ultimately ended up taking me down with him, we won’t go into the bloody details of this, but this was my first real hard lesson that shaped me as the woman i become later. After crawling up from the depths of hell, at the age of 20 I met my now husband, we went on to have 2 little girls, so 3 total by the time I was 23.
Seeking a better financial situation, we uprooted our lives for the oil fields of Midland, Texas where we quickly learned that “rest is for the weary, sleep was for the dead” and “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”. Our twenties were marked by relentless perseverance in the face of adversity. Between my husband’s long hours, days and weeks at work, sometimes months, oil field accidents that should have been catastrophic, missed holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. I would get dead end jobs just for a reason to get out of the house as I tried to keep my head above water by being a full-time mother of small children. I was all so much and feels like it was just yesterday.
Year 29… I decided to get my GED and cosmetology license as my last child was approaching kindergarten. I was determined to not only make money in this business but to also create a life where my family and I would have time together. As my business flourished behind the chair, so did our dreams. Within my first year, my business soared to six figures, the next 2 years were filled with growth eventually paving the way for a move to Fort Worth in 2019 in search of new beginnings and opportunities for our kids as they were approaching high school years, So we listed our home that we had lived in for 10 years and set out on our new journey where my husband and I would completely start over on our careers.
2019 was just the beginning of what we know now to be a huge shift in where we are headed today. The last 5 years have been full of growth, but it hasn’t happened without failed relationships, huge heartaches, extended family turmoil, covid, job layoffs…gosh I could go on forever! I mean I even bought a smoothie shop in 2019 to help build my market here in our new hometown, where a truck drove straight through in with me in it, how I wasn’t injured, I’ll never know.
Fast forward to 2022 where my business at the salon was growing steadily despite the hiccups and major challenges, I decided it was time to challenge myself even more. I got my Real Estate license! I know I’m a little crazy but I’m here for the ride. Hang tight. 2023 I went on to be the top producing rookie and receive “Rookie of the year” award at my brokerage. A brokerage that had around 30 “Rookies” at the time. All while still being a top earner in the hair industry.
Here we are in 2024, The Purple Chair Salon & Spa is set to open early August, my real estate business is rocking. My husband and I have such a strong relationship, kids that we are so proud of, our son has gone on to not only graduate HS excelling in fine arts but has received a full academic ride to Texas State University majoring in theatre with a bachelor’s in fine arts, just finishing his sophomore year there. Our 17-year-old daughter went on to do High School cheer with a team that placed in the top 10 NCA Nationals the last 2 years and plans to be a med student at Oklahoma University, and our baby who is now 14 plays soccer and volleyball and will be entering her freshmen year of high school next year.
As I stand on the threshold of this new chapter, I am reminded of the remarkable journey that brought me here. Every obstacle, every setback, has only served to fortify my resolve and deepen my appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit. Through it all, I’ve learned that success is not merely measured by financial gains but by the tenacity with which we pursue our dreams. So, to all those facing their own trials and tribulations, I offer these words of encouragement: Embrace the challenges, for they are the steppingstones to greatness. Believe in yourself, even when the world doubts you. And remember, the only limit to your potential is the one you place upon yourself. Move forward with courage and conviction, knowing that with perseverance and determination, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve the extraordinary. Your journey may be difficult, but the destination is worth every step of the way. Dare to dream, dare to defy the odds, and above all, dare to believe in the boundless potential that lies within you.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Despite the countless hurdles and unexpected turns in my journey, every challenge has shaped me into who I am today, making the struggle undeniably worthwhile. The path has been anything but smooth—filled with obstacles, setbacks, and moments of doubt—but each difficulty has taught me invaluable lessons and fostered resilience. The times of hardship have illuminated my strengths and revealed new perspectives, enriching my experience beyond measure. In retrospect, the uneven terrain of my journey has added depth and meaning to my accomplishments, proving that the struggle was not just a path to an end, but a crucial part of the destination itself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an entrepreneur mom in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I wear multiple hats with passion and dedication. I navigate the dynamic real estate market as a Realtor, helping families and individuals find their dream homes and make sound investments. Having an understanding of the local market and commitment to my clients ensures they receive top-notch service and expert advice. Alongside my real estate career, Ive been a hair stylist for 8 years specializing in color and extensions. For the last 6 months I’ve been in the works of opening The Purple Chair Salon & Spa in North Fort Worth proposed to open in August. Balancing these roles while raising my children is challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, as it allows me to be a role model of hard work and perseverance for my family.
