Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylen Quinn
Hi Jaylen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a licensed cosmetologist since 2006 and worked in salons, spas, and owned my own businesses within those 18 years. My first set of “professional” hair extensions (Great Lengths K-tips) were installed by a classmate of mine in my parent’s basement around the time I was about to graduate hair school. I fell in love with hair extensions the moment I saw those long, 18-inches framing my face!
This led me to try, and get certified, in all hair extension methods over the years. K-tips, tape-in, weft/sewn-in, micro-beads, every type of extension I could think of I wanted to learn and offer to my clients.
In 2018 I was getting married and always knew I would be wearing hair extensions on my wedding day. I was really frustrated with all the hair extension methods on the market that I had previously worn and I just felt hopeless. They were either too bulky, too damaging, poor quality of hair, or gave my head/neck awful pain. I was also fed-up with receiving hair extensions by stylists who didn’t care about the integrity of my own hair which led to stress on not only my hair but on my neck and shoulders.
Two things I’m very passionate about in life are: entrepreneurship and hair extensions. I knew in 2018 there had to be a better method of hair extensions that people in Fort Worth, let alone Texas, didn’t even know about yet and I was determined to find, source, and create my own hair extension line; I dream I have had since that first set of Great Lengths in 2006.
Enter Millie Pearl Nano-Bead Hair Extensions.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I love finding solutions to what comes across as a puzzle to me. In today’s world you can create any type of product you want if you look in the right places. My first puzzle piece was: where would I even find this unicorn method I had never seen before? And my second puzzle piece was: where would I even begin?!
Once I went through multiple rounds of trial and error in sourcing the right provider, I was elated to put my name on a hair extension method and line of hair that I was proud to stand behind. I went straight to work on the branding, marketing, and shouting it from the rooftops that I had finally created my own hair extension line!
And then 2020 hit.
Two years of active growth and momentum changed overnight. I had to completely rethink my way of doing business to accommodate both current and future clients after the world shut down. I love Millie Pearl Nano-Bead Hair Extensions for so many reasons, and one solution I was able to find during that time was to offer at-home services to my clients. I need very little space to do house-calls and this was a game changer for my business in terms of flexibility, mobility, and cost. My clients also love that they are able to sit back and relax in their own home and receive a full-head of hair extensions without leaving their kitchen or living room.
We’ve been impressed with Millie Pearl Nano-Bead Hair Extensions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the creator and founder of Millie Pearl Nano-Bead Hair Extensions. I am located in Fort Worth, TX. and travel around the metroplex/state to accommodate clients in their home for concierge services.
Nano-bead hair extensions are not found anywhere in Texas, let alone America. Highly popular in Canada and the UK, nano-bead hair extensions are 1/8th the size of traditional micro-bead, making them highly undetectable, and it also amounts to less weight being installed when it’s all said and done. I provide high-quality, shed-free and anti-color fading hair extensions, that are securely attached using tiny, silicon-lined beads. The Millie Pearl Method was created by me to ensure even weight distribution of the individual strands and a seamless haircut/blending of the hair extensions.
The cut is my specialty and what I am most proud of at the end of every application.
My motto is no one should ever be complimenting your hair extensions – they should never know you’re wearing them. Hair extensions should look like your hair and never look like a curtain/strip or sparse.
I pride myself on offering hair extensions that look, feel, and move like your natural hair. My clients would say they never worried about someone being able to tell if they were wearing hair extensions and that all the comments they received were, “I love your hair!” not “Your extensions look good.” I created this line for everyday women to have aspirational hair they would feel their most confident wearing day in and day out. Think model-worthy locks that people instantly believe are your own.
I offer multiple lengths of hair extensions ranging from 14-inches up to 2o-inches and have two different packages for clients to choose from: full-head installations (length + volume) or volume-only (matching your length but giving some body to your hair).
What sets me apart is my attention to detail and putting myself in your shoes when installing/cutting your hair extensions. I treat every install as if it were my own and how I would want to walk around looking and feeling with hair extensions in my day-to-day life. Seeing you light up with confidence when you finally see yourself in the mirror with this great head of hair is why I love what I do. I know that feeling, and I love being able to give that same feeling to women who have always struggled to feel beautiful with their natural hair.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Great question!
Fun fact: I find four-leaf clovers.
My grandmother has been able to do this since I was a child and in 2016 I was lucky 😉 enough to find my very first one! I continue to find them and preserve them to this day.
I believe that we can create our own “luck” in certain situations. I have seen over the years that consistency DOES pay off, no matter what you’re trying to achieve, build, or grow. Maybe consistency is the source for all luck, who knows, but I have learned you don’t get anywhere if you’re not putting effort toward something daily.
In 2020 when everything changed, my business took a massive hit in the following years due to my provider. I had to step back for a while and couldn’t offer services which made me believe this entire business was over. I was so bummed. I had to accept what was happening and just surrender to what I couldn’t control.
Then late last year in 2023, it was like everything turned back on with a snap and business could proceed as usual. The time off gave me the space to contemplate what the future of my business would look like and even if I wanted it back. I am grateful to that challenging period because it helped me get to the nitty gritty of my passions and what sets me on fire.
Hair extensions have always set me on fire – both professionally and personally!
