Rising Stars: Meet Jonathan Johnson of Red Oak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Johnson

Hi Jonathan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My author journey began at the age of fifteen due to experiencing kidney failure. Between juggling school, social life, sports, and now health, my mother felt that it would benefit me to start writing my thoughts in a journal. Once I started writing, it was easier for me to function through my day to day. Me writing in that journal has now produced six books. I was also blessed with a kidney transplant.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road as an independent author has not been an easy one. But it’s been a very valuable and blessed road. From learning how to properly write to handling all book tours and promotions, as well as self publishing all projects. It’s a tedious process, but rewarding in the end.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently author children’s and young adult books. I’m most proud of one of my books being featured on WFAA’s Wednesday’s Child. The title of the book is “When God Blessed Us With You” which tells the story of a young child who finds out that he is adopted during story time with his parents before bed. Wednesday’s Child covers stories of children that are waiting to be adopted. As an adoptee myself, the goal of the Wednesday’s Child interview was to show what adoption looks like when the child has grown up. The interview was a success.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a big fan of Eric Thomas and his podcast S2S podcast.
