Daily Inspiration: Meet Amy Switzer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Switzer

Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey is a vibrant story of creativity and expertise.

My career trajectory, from textile design to interior design, showcases my evolution in the creative field. My tenure in New York City, coupled with running my own manufacturing venture, equipped me with a unique perspective on design, blending artistry with practicality.

I strive to push the boundaries of creativity and reimagine what is possible within the realm of interior design. My commitment to innovation, authenticity, and exceptional client experiences drives me to seek out the rare, the exceptional, and the extraordinary, ensuring that each project we undertake becomes a masterpiece.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an entrepreneur is a journey marked by a mix of exhilarating highs and challenging lows. It’s a path that demands resilience, creativity, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty. There are so many ups and downs that can happen throughout just one day.

One of the biggest struggles is uncertainty and instability. Income can be unpredictable, especially in the early stages and being a service based business it can be pretty risky as when the next project may come in.

Being a mom of two young children can have its challenges but being an entrepreneur adds in a whole new layer. Building this business has been long hours and it’s been a challenge with work-life balance.

The behind the scenes work as an entrepreneur is what really sets someone apart, my success is based on the amount of work I am willing to put into it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full service residential interior designer in Dallas. My personal style is a bit of old and new blended as I like to say it’s “modern design that meets unique artistry.” I dont know if I am known for anything specific as I am designer that will cater to my client’s taste and do not stick with one aesthetic. I am most proud of building a business while having such young kids. When I started my business just about two short years ago I was still recovering from giving birth to my son but I was running around working with clients and getting things set up to officially launch the business. When I look back I have no idea how I did all of that being so sleep deprived, having a new baby and building a business. There is so much talent in this world and creative people, I am humbled that I won an award for Designer of the Year in my first year of business. In general I think I am a little different as my personal style is not mainstream and a I am willing to push boundaries and frankly be a little weird in design. I love fashion and have always been a bit of a risk taker in fashion and I love translating that into interior design.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Integrity, no matter what, I will do the right thing. I rather be at a loss financially (hopefully not often) than try to get ahead without being honest. My foundation of being raised in a family that is honest, loyal, hard workers and doing what’s right is deeply instilled in me. I think when people are investing their money into a service they are taking a risk on that person and they need to know that they can trust that person, with me I hope I make it clear to clients I am someone they can trust.
