Today we’d like to introduce you to Eshan Patel
Hi Eshan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Eshan Patel but my stage name is Eshin. Music has always been apart of my life from a young age whether I was hearing it through Bollywood movies or cultural songs my grandparents would sing. It has always fascinated me and I’ve been attached to music for a long time. My first taste of real mainstream music came around age 6 or 7 through my older brother. He used to take me everywhere in his old Buick and with him being in high school at the time he would only listen to local stations like 106.1 or 104.5. That’s when I first heard songs like Poker Face by Lady Gaga, No One by Alicia Keys, and so many more classic pop songs. As well through 104.5 I got my first taste of rap like Lollipop by Lil Wayne and Heartless by Kanye West. These songs and artists were some of my earliest inspirations and I didn’t even know it yet. As time progressed a few years later I got to middle school and it came time to choose extra curricular activities. I played football, because what kid in Texas doesn’t, and I also auditioned for the band. I got placed with the instrument called the euphonium. I was pretty disappointed because all my friends got cool instruments like the trombone and percussion but I would find out later the euphonium actually was the best instrument for me. From the first day my teacher, Jeremy Lindquist, saw my potential and helped me excel. After going through 6th grade and learning the basics of the euphonium and music in general, I had to audition for a band placement. I placed 2nd chair in the top band. That year we ended up winning the state title too. As an 8th grader I moved on to 1st chair and performed at the TMEA conference with the band. This early knowledge of classical music that I gained helped set a foundation for when I chose to make my own music later on. Going into high school I continued with band and did marching band also. When it got to concert season, which is basically the “sit down” version of band, I again got placed into the top band as a freshman, I was one out of 4. Once I got to 10th grade I let band go due to things happening in life at the time. However, this did not stop my love for music. I still dabbled in music and I used to rent instruments from a local music shop just to learn them on the side. I got to learn the saxophone, trombone, and piano. Once my senior year came around, the COVID lockdown started. This is where I started making music, because what else could I do at the time. I first actually started recording with apple ear buds, and I would download a beat put it on iMovie and then record myself on Imovie. Once I started gaining some knowledge about making music, I got my first mic which was a basic usb microphone and I started learning garage band on my brothers old Mac book. I started learning how to write, mix, record, and release music under my stage name, Eshin. Because I had no money at the time I learned to do everything myself. I ended up releasing my first album in January 2021. As I progressed I slowly started to gain more attention and people reached out to collaborate. One person in particular was a producer named NeoHugh. He was the first producer to fully believe in me and give me beats for free. During that process of working with him I started learning LogicProX and learning other advanced plugins to mix my music. NeoHugh and I eventually released an album called NYC to the D, which is fully recorded, written, mixed, and produced by just us 2. That album today currently has over 120k streams over all platforms and that album is what made me and others around me really see I can be an artist. As time moved on I kept learning and released another project called Rage ’n B which was a mix of rap and RnB. At this point I needed a way to get found. I tried all sorts of marketing but then I tried something that helped me gain some serious connections. I started to leak my music. People would see my music among other bigger artists songs and they then would search me up. This method helped me gain attention from my current A&R/Manager Arvin Kilambi. He found me through my leaks and then started to work very closely with me. Him and another friend Aliaan Alwani really got me set up with a team of producers, engineers, videographers, etc. Our first test release as a team was my album called “Starlit”. This album did exceptionally well and the music video I released for the lead single “Nowitzki” currently has 14k+ views on YouTube. After this release in August 2022 we took the next 9 months to create an album. During this process I got reconnected with an old friend who got back into music, Daniel Gonzales. He was learning engineering at Luminous Sound Studios in Dallas. Daniel brought me in to work with him and during this 9 month process I also started recording there, a place where the likes of Lady Gaga and Travis Scott record. It was a full circle moment that I was recording in the same place as my earliest inspirations. I also learned how to edit music videos as well as worked with other videographers to create videos during this process. And 9 months later we finished my album “Life or Death” which released on May 24th and is currently on all platforms.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
To me it hasn’t always been a smooth road to create music. At first it was even hard to record in the first place, I was super shy and I didn’t want other people in the house to hear me so I’d only record when I was home alone, but eventually I got over that and started recording confidently. Even after that though there were so many obstacles such as not having the knowledge to create the music I envisioned, not having money for things, not having anyone to get feedback from, hate from others. There were all the common things artists experience in their early stages. One unique thing I have though is that while doing all this I am still in school which can make getting things done very hard. I study biomedical engineering at UT Dallas.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my opinion I am an artist, not bound by genre. I am inspired by artists like Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Gunna, Justin Timberlake, Future, etc. and I am inspired by all genres of music like RnB, Baile Funk, reggaeton, rap, pop, etc. Also due to not being able to afford an engineer and studio early on I learned how to write, record, mix, and release my music. I think what I specialize in is not being bound but one sound, I feel like I have a wide variety of genres and sounds that my voice can fit on. That is also what I think sets me apart from others, I love to try new genres and when I do I fully dive into that world and learn everything about that genre before I even try. I think me educating myself on the sounds and styles is what allows me to easily apply my voice on any genre. This is also what my listeners enjoy about me too. They don’t know what I will release next because every song has its own vibe and sound.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think the most surprising thing is that I make high quality music and videos all while balancing a biomedical engineering degree. Another thing is that my team isn’t based in Dallas. We are all actually spread around in Toronto, Miami, LA, and Dallas.
