Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Cardenas.
Hi Rachel , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Rachel Cardenas, and I am a professional model & actress in the DFW Metroplex. Although I am from Dallas, I do work on projects outside of the metroplex and I do travel. I started my modeling journey in August of 2021 as a way to help build my self-confidence. I wanted to find an outlet that was creative and inspiring to me, and modeling was a passion I a;ways wanted to pursue. During covid, I took the leap to make this happen and researched ways to help build my portfolio, and now in 2024 I am professional trained and certified in the industry.
My goal with modeling now is to show younger models that they can be professional and not compromise themselves for print work. This industry can be harsh and young models can be taken for granted, so the goal is to be a big sister and help educate them on how to protect their image in the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The modeling has not been a smooth road at all but it has been an adventurous one! I have met photographers I love working with, and many that I won’t work with again. I have learned to be aware of scams, fake people, and that a simple photoshoot can turn into a lifelong friendship. I have learned that younger models always need a role model and that they do watch everything we do, so I vowed to be a good role model just for them.
One of the biggest struggles I faced was being older in the industry and having a late start, but that did not discourage me. In fact, it pushed me harder to be genuine and as professional as possible. I know many models that will model just about anything or almost nothing, but that was not my forte. I maintain a modest image in the industry as being a model who truly respects her image in the world, and loving herself as she is.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in fashion and print work, and I love to do photoshoots that bring back the vintage photography era! I am known as a professional, curvy, tattooed model and for my ability to make networking events happen. My professional portfolio speaks for itself, and I regularly do projects with many area photographers.
I am most excited for being respected in the industry as a reliable model and that I get requested a lot for projects. What makes me different from other models is that I care about how models are treated in the industry. I want them to know that they don’t have to expose their selves to be respected in the modeling world. I am very happy for being a mentor to young ladies for helping know worth in this world. My biggest accomplishment was being able to speak to the Wolfettes Empowerment Girls Group in Plano, Texas.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Oh yes! I also do act as well and have been trained by John Casablancas Agency. I would like to network with more professionals in this industry as well inside and outside of Dallas, Texas. I enjoy acting because it allows me to portray a character that is not normally me. My favorite type of roles so far as law enforcement, mom roles, and action roles. It really makes me happy to see these characters come to life on the big screen. I would really love to do more projects in the industry and work with more professionals.
