Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Hulslander.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a writer in all senses of the word with published fiction works, a personal blog, freelance work as an editor, copywriter experience, and as a fanfiction writer. I started back in middle school when a former friend introduced me to fanfiction. I thought, hey, I could do that, and I began learning how to write fiction simply by practicing daily. I chose to study Creative Writing in college to gain more experience, try out different forms of writing, and help me pursue a career as an author. Though I do not write as much as I wish I did, I know that I am on a strong career path as a writer and am working towards completing my first novel!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road at all! With ADHD, regular life responsibilities, and the occasional writers block, it can be extremely hard to motivate myself to continue writing for my career as an author. Though I have a strong career as a copywriter, with articles coming out regularly that I write, my works of fiction resume is not where I wish it was. I have so many ideas, but finding the time to sit down and get them onto a document feels like a challenge daily. And, if I get them completed, some stories take a long time to find the right publishing group as they’re too abstract or unique. While I hope that I can continue getting my fiction work out there, I know the road ahead will continue to be bumpy as I try and make my way as an author and a creative.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A big question! I am a fiction author, mainly for fantasy, and a technology copywriter specializing in gaming. As a fiction author, I can say I’m known for my large ideas and ability to create characters that make readers question who the real villain is. Even though it is only in the draft stage, I am extremely proud of the novel I’m working on because, as a short story writer, having a full-fledged idea that can cover the pages of a book is thrilling. As a technology copywriter, I am most proud of the BenQ Game Zone Series I write bi-weekly where I speak about the gaming experience of big name games on gaming projectors. It’s a great opportunity to share my passion for gaming and writing.
As for what sets my apart from others, I would say it is my mindset. When I write, I am writing for me, not a potential audience. I want to write what I would want to read, and that makes it easier if people don’t enjoy what I wrote because I did, and as long as I’m happy with it that is what matters!
What’s next?
Another big question! My biggest plan as an author is my novel. I don’t know what the reception of it will be, or how long it will take for me to succeed, but my goal has always been to have a book on the shelves of a bookstore and I will make sure I can get there one way or another. I do not know the path my career will take me though, but in the future I see my family and I enjoying time in a lovely reading room enjoying the freedom my hard work has brought us.
