Today we’d like to introduce you to Kapil Ralli.
Hi Kapil, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and brought up in India and we moved to the US back in 2008. I worked and lived in New York City for 11 years before moving to Dallas in 2020. I wasn’t into photography before we moved to the US- I took it up when I was in NY. The more I got into it the more serious I became. I certified through NY Institute of Photography and upgraded to professional camera gear. I started to look at things differently. The light, the colors, the texture, the angles, the viewpoint, the story. I evolved over time. And over the years I have been published in over 40 magazines including Vanity, Moevir & Flannele (French Magazines), Lucy, Elegant, Ellements, Opium, Pump, Selin to name a few. I have also won international awards – One Eyeland Award, International Color Award (Over 73 countries participated with over 6200 entries), Black Spider Award. I’m also a Brand Ambassador for Modelmanagement.com (World’s largest modeling platform).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No- it’s been quite a struggle. Trial and error on shots, doing a whole shoot and then realizing I shot on jpeg format instead of raw (very difficult to edit jpg), Having model not show up after I have booked the studio and makeup artist. Models throwing tantrums and asking to edit in “a” particular style which is not my style. Being a photographer is not easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer and have been shooting for over 10 years now. I mostly shoot editorial and high fashion stuff. I’m a big fan of Tony Kelly (His color themes are so inspiring), I love Gary Breckheimer’s work as well (NY based photographer with an extremely talented eye). I’m proud of my achievements – I’m multi-published in over 40 magazines including vanity magazine. I think my color themes and compositions sets me apart. I also love recreating Art into pictures. 1. I have recreated Venus Verticordia – a painting by Rosetti
2. I have recreated The bridesmaid By John Millais
3. I have done Diana the huntress by Guillaume Seignac and many more.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when i used to get back from school and me and my gang would play pranks on the neighbors. I have so many to remember but my favorite was when we would knock at the neighbor’s house (late at night) and then run away. We would co-ordinate with 6-7 kids knocking on different neighbors at the same time. The look on those guy’s faces was priceless. And the best part was we never got caught.
