Meet Kortney Boyett of Kortney Boyett Photography in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kortney Boyett.

Kortney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography has always been a passion of mine. In high school, I was given a “fancy camera” and loved taking photos of my friends and cute dogs. I mean, who doesn’t do that, right? During my freshmen year of college, I knew that I enjoyed it so much that turning it into a career would never feel like work! The turning point in my journey was 5 years ago when I married the most wonderful, Christ-centered man, I’ve ever met. It was definitely a life-changing moment!

After our big day had passed, I knew I wanted to be a wedding photographer. I do not know what I would have done if I did not have photos from my wedding day. And not just any photos… but beautiful, timeless photos to be cherished for a lifetime! My husband quickly saw my passion for weddings and helped me so much in my first 2 years of photographing weddings. Two of the very first pro lenses he bought for me as presents.

I spent my first two years of our marriage learning the ends and outs of wedding photography. I became the second shooter for a few different photographers in DFW & photographed over 80 weddings in two years. I mentored with a photographer and went to workshops to learn as much as possible.

Now I am beginning my 6th year of wedding photography and could not be more excited about this year!

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t an easy journey. At one point I was working 3 jobs and doing photography on the side. It’s very difficult owning your own business because income isn’t consistent. You have no idea how many sessions or wedding you’ll end up booking in the beginning. My husband has always been a huge encouragement throughout my whole journey.

Besides the obvious income struggles everyone has, another struggle along the way was the fact that I am a huge introvert. I hate making that first move and talking to someone I don’t know. Once I get to know people Not only do I not like meeting new people and feeling so uncomfortable, but I devalue myself all the time. When owning your own business, confidence is a necessity.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a full-time wedding photographer and specialize in couples, bridals, and boudoir. I love photographing my couples through the whole process and the more I see and meet with my clients the more I am achieving my goal. My hope is to get to know every client, from the very beginning. I love becoming best friend with my brides and continuing that even after the wedding day.

Not only do I hope to become best friends with my brides, but I wish for my couples to see a photographer who cares for them. God plays such an important role in my life and I seek for God to play a huge role in my business. When my brides are going through something, they know they can count on me to pray for them and be there for them.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Fort Worth has so many small businesses which makes it the perfect place to start and grow your business. There are also a lot of photographers in the area, which you can look at as a good or bad thing, but I choose to see it as a benefit! You can learn so much from other local photographers. I have made so many good photographer friends. It is truly one of the best communities to grow in!
