Hi Savaun , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
( Savaun Young, also known by his stage name Lil Say, was born on November 2nd, 1993 in Conroe Texas. From his heavy hooks and often upbeat flows, balanced with a perfect amount of passion and pain.
Raised in Navasota, Texas with his mother, step-father, and siblings. His passion for rapping began since he could walk, as he states, “My cousins were older than me, Rondrae, Tarvis, K-D & A few others would write their own lyrics & hook and lay the song down and record it on the karaoke machine than let everyone hear it in our neighborhood! When I seen that, I joined right in & I knew what I wanted & needed to do, but that love for music has always been there” His influences include: Al Green, OutKast, Big Pokey, Slim Thug, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, UGK, Scarface, Zro, S.U.C, Quarter-Boy, Chamillionaire, Lil Keke, Fat Pat, Big Hawk, Sauce Walka, Young Dolph, Young Jeezy & more.
He is also shaped by his life events, which show transparently in his music. [Lil say] “Losing my real dad to a car accident changed me forever At 12 years old. Lossing Mother The Same way At Age 25 my mind state changed & I losted a big part of me, At Age 22 I lost my closest friend to gun violence. The good doing these shows, interviews, videos, and studios sessions is what gives me life and keeps me pushing to the next level.” His goal is to “Capitalize on everything I’m building. Spread my brand, my music, give knowledge to the people, & Give Back To The Communities.” He Is CEO Of “Get Money Nation”(G.M.N) [Est.2012] The Record Label!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t, but what is life without the ups & downs, I losted my father when I was 11-12yrs old to a car accident, than I losted my mother to a car accident also when I was 24yrs old.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a “Music Artist/ Entrepreneur/ Community Activist” Iam known for giving back to the community rather it’s a town I grew up in or The Music Community with different connections to be better & do better, I have a toy drive Every Year going on (6yrs) in Honor of My Mother Ms.Stephanie Furr! I go to 5-Locations on “December 23rd” (College Station, Bryan, Navasota, Conroe, & Hearne,Tx) Iam most proud of the impact my music has & the uplifting feeling it gives people to be greater or do more in life! Now what sets me apart from others is THE CONSISTENCY, HUSTLE, GRIND, AMBITIOUS, COURAGE, INTEGRITY, PAIN, LOVING, CARING, & LEADER! But I Also Don’t mind being the behind the scene guy, at times you have to know when to be quiet and watch your time will come just like the others patience is key!
What makes you happy?
My Family, Nobody family is perfect but we’ve been through so much & love 1 another when we need each other we come together no matter the situation! Growing up we use to stay at each others houses or if one couldn’t stay somewhere they would move in or us vice versa, it’s never a dull moment. you may not speak to certain ones as much when y’all were young but the same love is always shown when seeing each other, now it’s 2 families I have The ones I grew up with & it’s my family i learned & built myself which includes my soon be wife Constance & our (4) kids! As you grow older you lose friends not everybody from high school will still be there people will change & so will you! It’s nothing wrong with growing apart! Love your Fam(ily)
