Today we’d like to introduce you to Teah/Kennedy Ramsey/Peterson
Hi Teah/Kennedy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My business partner, Kennedy Peterson, and I first met on the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) campus. We later became sorority sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated where our friendship grew stronger. We quickly bonded over our passion for self-care and mental health practices. After graduating from UCSC, we decided to start a business together that encompassed our love for self-care and wellness. Thus, in the Fall of 2021, Mindful Opulence was born.
Though there have been tremendous strides in the mental health field, it is still a relatively taboo topic, especially within the black community. Given our backgrounds and passion for personal development, we knew we wanted to start a business that could help promote better self-care practices and we knew exactly the product to begin with – journals!
Kennedy and I custom designed our journals, as well as all of our products, with details that we look for when picking a journal; such as journal prompts, personal development ideas, words of affirmations, and or course, an aesthetically pleasing design.
As we approach our three year anniversary we only seek to further grow our business. That is why Kennedy has decided to further her education at SC Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University to aid in our goal of expanding Mindful Opulence beyond our E-commerce platform and gaining potential investors/business grants.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe every business owner would agree that it is never a smooth road. Whether it was shipping our first product or learning how to file our taxes there have definitely been obstacles along the way and many learning opportunities. Luckily Kennedy and I have each other to rely on as we go through the growing pains. But I think Kennedy and I would both agree that when you have a passion for what you do you’ll be willing to jump over any hurdle to see your dreams come into fruition.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Mindful Opulence offers self-care tips and resources through our online community and a collection of custom-designed wellness products, supporting personal development journeys. What sets us apart from other wellness or stationery brands is our belief that opulence can be found in everyday moments, and that self-care is an opulent form of self-love. We stand firmly on the idea that opulence is not only found in material possessions but is also a state of mind. Hence, our tagline: “That’s Her MO.”
How do you think about happiness?
We do our best to find in happiness everywhere we go but we find it most when we are spending time with our loved ones, investing quality time in ourselves, and gaining new experiences. Whether we are surrounded by the people who love us most or catering to our own love language it is evident that the best things in life do come free.
