Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Mize
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello world!
I am Amanda, a mother of 3 and a wife to a Navy Veteran. I am someone who’s been known to prioritize family first.
Throughout being a military wife, I knew in my heart that giving our children my undivided attention was something I wanted to prioritize, so being a SAHM was what I decided to do, Especially with a husband who was in active military at the time.
In 2012, I went to pursue a certification license as a pharmacy technician but realized it wasn’t the route I wanted to pursue.
After we settled back home in Texas, and working for others, I finally felt like it was the right time to go back to school & accomplish a goal of mine to be in a career I had always dreamt of!
To be an Esthetician as a skin care specialist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So was it a smooth road? Personally, it was a rollercoaster. Throughout this time I still had to juggle being a mother, work (which I eventually put in two weeks notice) and go straight to night school! I am a natural rule follower so of course once I had my orientation and heard the words “ if you’re on time, your late” … it was literally ingrained in my mind which brought me back to “military time” with my husband. (lol)
Immediately, I promised myself I had to be there everyday, have self discipline & major commitment to accomplish my Goal…& those of you who can relate as a mother-it can be very challenging at times.
Throughout the school year, I ended up having chronic back pain every now (which is another long story! so I won’t bored you with that just yet lol) and then but still fought through the pain & went to school.
Of course, there were days when the kids got sick or the kids didn’t want me to leave, which gave me major mom guilt but I always gave them reassurance that it’ll be okay and that it’ll be all worth it in the end when I’m done & be there again. 🥹🙏🏼
So you can imagine, this is was definitely one of my main struggles!
We’ve been impressed with YR Derma Bar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After pursing my Texas license as a Esthetician, I decided to get a suite in a salon in the heart of Saginaw on Saginaw Main Street to have the flexibility in my career to be there for my family when I can.
I named my business YR Derma Bar, which sounds like “Your” Derma Bar, but what many don’t realize is that it also stands for “Yellow Rose.”
Being Texas born and raised, I knew I had to incorporate Texas somehow! I love that it gives clients a connection to their derma bar with the southern hospitality Texans are known for.
In night school, I was really adamant on becoming knowledgeable in draining the lymphatic system, which helps your body filter out (remove) waste & bacteria. I had joined a master class at International Congress of Esthetics & Spa with Sorella Apothecary to become more knowledgeable in the techniques they teach to facialist.
One of my inspirations is a famous Esthetician named Jadé Marie.
(@jadeywadey180) she is someone who really inspired me to bring that same positive energy that she offers in her facials to Texas! I really want to match her energy!
People don’t realize how facials can really help eliminate toxins from the body. It’s more than just skincare, which is one of the reasons why I offer a holistic approach to skincare by integrating wellness practices like facial massages, aromatherapy, and mindfulness techniques to enhance relaxation and overall well-being.
So I think it’s safe to say I am an esthetician who specializes in draining the lymphatic system while also being results-driven with facials. I also offer brow laminations and lash lifts. Brows have fascinated me since the age of 14. In the modeling school that my parents enrolled me in when I was younger, I was sent home with a book that had many different techniques on how to pose and how to properly do makeup, hair, and brows. Ever since, it’s been something I’ve done for women (and men).
Eventually, I do plan on offering light therapy with Celluma & a few other add ons by the fall this year!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is having a work-Life balance. Having continuous education.
Being able to Balancing physical, mental, and emotional health to lead a well-rounded and fulfilling life; even after setback or failure, we must continue to keep trying & give it our best!
