Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Oliver-Knappe
Stacey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Owning my business consulting practice, Stacey OK Consulting, has been a serendipitous roller coaster ride. Gracious hospitality, service, public speaking, problem-solving, and adventure have always been in my DNA, though I never quite knew how they would merge into a profession. When I was young, I envisioned a long-term career at Walt Disney World, never imagining the consulting world as a viable path.
However, life had other plans. A transformative work experience at Disneyland Paris as an expatriate opened my eyes to new possibilities. A few years later, an unexpected consulting opportunity early in my career revealed that my professional life could differ from what I had initially envisioned. I realized I could harness my passion for helping others and my knack for problem-solving in a fulfilling and impactful way.
Each client I work with is an adventure in problem-solving, and I love adding value by addressing their unique challenges. This journey has not only shaped my career but has also solidified my love for what I do, allowing me to bring joy, innovation, and effective solutions to businesses around the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning my own business has been one of my life’s most rewarding and challenging experiences. Nothing quite tests your mettle like the responsibility of steering your own ship. It demands an unwavering belief in yourself and your abilities. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the fluid nature of client pipelines and agreements. While everyone starts with the best intentions, the details and circumstances often change.
Early on, I struggled with the disappointment of potential clients who seemed enthusiastic about solving their issues with my help, only for something to derail the process during the sales cycle. It was a tough pill to swallow at first, but with time and experience, I realized that these setbacks were rarely personal. They are simply part of the ebb and flow of business. Understanding this has allowed me to stay resilient, maintain my positivity, and keep pushing forward. This journey has not only strengthened my business acumen but has also deepened my empathy and adaptability, making me a more effective and compassionate consultant.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
From the COVID-19 pandemic, I learned that flexibility and agility are the most essential traits in an organization’s people practice. While a strong culture and well-defined policies are critical, the ability to adapt and respond to specific, ad hoc needs is what truly sets successful organizations apart.
The pandemic highlighted the importance of being agile, as those who could quickly pivot their strategies and support their employees fared much better. It became evident that rigid approaches led to unnecessary terminations or, worse, a fatigued and disengaged workforce. Embracing flexibility allowed organizations to survive and thrive during uncertain times, ensuring their teams remained motivated, supported, and productive.
This experience reinforced my commitment to helping clients develop adaptive strategies, prioritizing their people, and creating resilient workplaces capable of navigating any challenge.
