I am a first generation Nigerian American and I grew up in Houston, Texas. I take pride in my Yoruba culture and our names. Our names hold titles, stories of the past and blessings for the future. Which brings me to share the meaning of my business name Àjoké, pronounced (Ah-JOH-Keh), “Someone to be pampered by all”. The name carries a profound meaning — it embodies the spirit of love, care, and nurturing, which resonates with who I am. A dedicated healthcare leader with years of experience as a registered nurse. From my own personal experience, I witnessed firsthand the critical need for more personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care for expectant mothers, new mothers, and women experiencing pregnancy loss. Inspired by the stories of many women who felt overwhelmed and unsupported during their maternity journey, I set out to create a service that would change that narrative. For me, it’s more than business, it’s personal.

The journey of building Ajoke Nursing Concierge has been incredibly rewarding, but it has not been without its challenges. Starting from a small, home-based operation and growing into a renowned service demanded perseverance, resilience, and a strong vision.
One of the initial struggles was raising awareness about the importance of personalized, comprehensive care for expectant and new mothers. Many people were unfamiliar with the concept of a concierge service dedicated to maternity and postpartum care, so educating potential clients and the community about the benefits and necessity of our services was a significant hurdle.
Another significant area of opportunity has been improving maternal health outcomes for women of color. Recognizing the disparities in maternal health, we implemented a new approach of having a dedicated nurse advocate throughout the fertility and maternity experience. These advocates provide continuous support, personalized care, and a trusted point of contact for mothers, ensuring their unique needs are met with the utmost sensitivity and professionalism. By addressing both medical and emotional aspects of care, our nurse advocates work to bridge the gap in health disparities, fostering better outcomes and a more equitable healthcare experience for women of color.
To tackle this issue in our community, we have also focused on enhancing communication and education. By creating open channels of communication between mothers and healthcare providers, we ensure that concerns are heard and addressed promptly. Additionally, we conduct community outreach programs and workshops to educate women about their rights, available resources, and the importance of advocating for their own health.
Navigating the financial aspects of a growing business also presented difficulties. From managing operational costs to securing funding for expansion, financial planning required careful attention and strategic decision-making.

Each struggle has strengthened our resolve and improved our ability to deliver exceptional care.
