Today we’d like to introduce you to Shea Nailling
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Ever since a middle school field trip to the career center for my high school, I knew without a doubt that hair was my calling! At 16, my junior year of high school, I started the cosmetology program. I graduated high school at 17 in 2011 with my cosmetology license.!
It everything I thought it would be and more! I immediately started apprenticing at Shanna Ashley Salon while in I was in school & when I graduated there was a chair waiting for me! I worked there for 5 years and then in 2016 me and 2 of the girls I worked with there opened a salon together, Salons at Hickory Hill in Argyle and have been happily serving the area ever since! Can’t believe we have been together for 13 years!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My parents had some financial struggles around the time I graduated high school so if I had not done the cosmetology program in high school it would have been a lot harder to get a higher education. I only paid $800 for my program vs paying $30000 for an outside cosmetology school! When all my friends were graduating collage I was opening up my own salon!
As you know, we’re big fans of Salons at Hickory Hill / Salon Shea. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize in all things hair. I love doing dimensional color, balayage, & I’m always up for a challenge!
What sets me apart is how hard I work, and how accommodating I am, but most importantly my work.
My clients will tell you any time they drive by they see my car there.
My salon is my life, My second home and it definitely shows. I’m always taking classes and continuing my education. It’s something that’s so important in this ever-changing industry in order to be the best you can be. Making people feel beautiful every day is truly the most rewarding job there is!
