Rising Stars: Meet Kilo Posh of DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kilo Posh

Hi Kilo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began in 2017 when I started DJing and event coordinating. Working with local bars, I gained valuable experience in booking talent and organizing events, which fueled my passion for creating unique experiences. I saw the need for safer, more inclusive spaces , particularly for overlooked communities.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Navigating the entertainment scene as a queer woman of color has presented its own set of challenges. There were moments when it was difficult to gain support for events that prioritize inclusivity and safety for marginalized communities. Additionally, balancing the creative aspects of DJing and event planning with the demands of running AFTRDRK Studios, CD Club, and Boys Club has been a learning experience. However, each challenge has fueled my determination to create spaces where everyone can feel seen, heard, and celebrated. These struggles have only strengthened my resolve to push boundaries and foster community through my work.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating spaces that make you feel something, through DJing, event coordination, and community-building.

I’m known for directing & founding AFTRDRK Studios, an entertainment hub I curate all my events under. From “Bring Your Own CD” at Double D’s, “Aftrdrk- featuring DJ/Producers playing original dance, club, house, juke & more” at LadyLove Sound and Lounge & Lowdoubt Bar, to hosting “CD Club”a unique music-focused gathering at locations such as CreatrVerse & Spinster Records.

My proudest moment was DJing with Kevin Aviance on his “cunty ball’ tour! Aviance is a ballroom/house legend, they called me a “true house-head” I have been unstoppable ever since!

What sets me apart is my commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces that prioritize marginalized communities. Such as “Boys Club” a networking collective I founded that celebrates and uplifting women and allies .

I’m most proud of the positive impact these ventures have had on the community, fostering safe spaces where everyone can express themselves. Through my work, I strive to challenge the status quo and build networks of support and empowerment.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Well I’m originally from, Missouri! It’s definitely a culture shock out here!
What I do like about the dfw is the talent & creativity I have encountered.

My dislikes would be traffic lol— but in all seriousness I would like to see more communities/subcultures supporting each other more.
