Meet Figaro Nove of Lewisville, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Figaro Nove

Hi Figaro, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My earliest memories are from the Philippines, where I was born and raised. After turning 16, my family and I relocated to the United States, giving me the opportunity to spend the rest of my youth living in Las Vegas, NV. I started taking my musical aspirations seriously during my high school years. Joining my school’s choir, in depth music theory courses, directing & acting in operas and theater productions, and going on to compete in singing competitions. Following my graduation I went on to earn an amazing opportunity to live & work in Macau, China for 6 months as part of my decade long career singing opera and performing at the Venetian in Las Vegas.

It wasn’t until I was 23 in 2011 that I finally came out to friends and family and started living and speaking my truth. Happily 3yrs later I met my, now spouse, Ender! We dated for a couple of years before getting married at EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) Las Vegas 2017. We’ve gone through a lot together over the following 7 years and have both helped each other grow and learn a lot, and we’re hopeful about the potential for our future going forward in spite of our current financial struggles.

During the pandemic my job laid me off and live music was severely hampered of course, so I didn’t have a lot of job prospects during the lockdown period. Meanwhile Ender’s employer at the time kept paying their employees and in fact after some restructuring they did a promotion opportunity became available requiring us to relocate to Dallas, TX. Since moving to the DFW area I’ve launched my fully solo music career working on continuing to build relationships and networks, writing and producing my own original work, improving my piano skills, and booking jobs and putting on shows with some fantastic musicians I’ve become friends with. Lately I’ve been really enjoying exploring my musical expression mainly through a Jazz / R&B / Pop lens.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path has been anything but smooth sailing starting from the beginning with my childhood and growing up in an abusive household. We maintained a strained relationship for some time after coming here to the U.S., however after I came out in 2011 things finally reached their breaking point and I ended up having to cut them off in the end for me to start living more authentically and happily. In more recent years I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can start working on myself and, I don’t want to share too much right now, unpacking the sexual abuse I experienced growing up, and its been difficult finding support groups for male survivors, but I’ve been doing what I can for now. I’ve finally reached a place where I’m tired of carrying around this baggage and want to leave my past in the past so that Ender & I can enjoy a fun happy future with our chosen family of close friends.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m currently working on a few projects like putting out more original work, a friend and I are trying out a duo idea, creating and performing original arrangements of popular songs, and trying to keep my momentum lately and keep consistent bookings coming in! I really specialize in in-depth musical knowledge and I would say that I’m probably most known for my operatic and theater work, and how I sound like Josh Groban. As for what I’m most proud of , at least at this point, I’d have to say it was my Solar Return Concert that I put together from scratch to celebrate the release of my 1st original single ‘Favorite Flavor’ on iTunes and Spotify! As for what I believe sets me apart from others I’d have to say it’s my musical style playing off of my classical Opera and Musical Theater background blending together with elements from the Jazz, Pop, and R&B styles that I mentioned I’ve been enjoying playing around in lately.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
For me, cultivating self-compassion has been the most important characteristic for my success lately. It’s something I’ve struggled with throughout my life and so it’s been really empowering to build that up for myself. Along side that I’d say that my perseverance has been instrumental as well, as it’s the reason I’ve made it this far in spite of all of the negativity that has surrounded me for a large portion of my life, and that still lingers around inside as a result of what I’ve experienced.
