Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Cohen
Hi Ciara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when I was in high school. Every year my mom and I would go to a bluebonnet field and take pictures of each other. We would bring props such as chairs and picture frames. When my daughter was born, I wanted to carry on the tradition. I found a beautiful pink chair that was low to the ground, perfect for a little girl. I took her out to the bluebonnet field and people stoped me to ask if they could barrow the chair for pictures with their family. A “quick” borrowing for a chair turned in to a combined hours of waiting for beautiful family memories to be made. This was two years ago when the idea of renting props started. Over the last couple of years, I have invested in cute chairs, wagons, and high chairs for my own events/photo session of my kids. Some of my favorite pieces are vintage high chairs. I personally used them for my daughter’s first birthday and my son’s baby shower. I knew I couldn’t be the only one who wanted 1st birthday cake smash photos to be aesthetically pleasing. I began to look around and see if this would be something others would be interested in renting out for a few hours for their events instead of investing in, buying, and storing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any new business, there comes inherent challenges. Spotted Whimsy Rentals is still in its infancy stage as I took the leap of starting this adventure 4 months ago. The hardest thing right now is marketing to the community.
As you know, we’re big fans of Spotted whimsy rentals . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Spotted whimsy is unique because it’s a local small business that focuses on bringing fun elements to events and photos. While a several of our clients rented pieces for their personal events. Photographers can also benefit by renting out pieces for their business as well.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Being a local small businesses in the city of Colleyville can be a huge blessing or be your business down fall. Being a tight knit city helps the business grow organically but it has the potential to cause the business to fail.
