Hi Charles, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2022, my father and I began to research opportunities in franchising. He has been in the franchising industry for almost 20 years writing franchise operating manuals with in his business, FranMan. After exploring multiple concepts and after careful consideration, he and I were granted the opportunity, and opened a WOW 1 DAY Painting franchise in 2023.
Before entering the painting industry, I had a career working in EMS – I was a paramedic in Rockwall County for several years. This and other positions I’ve held in my life have taught me the importance of efficiency, attention to detail, and above all, excellent customer service. I decided to invest in a WOW 1 DAY Painting franchise because the brand’s unique promise of quick, high-quality results resonated with me. Despite being relatively new to the painting industry, I leveraged the extensive support and proven systems offered by WOW 1 DAY Painting to establish a strong foundation for my business.
Since opening the franchise, I’ve been actively involved in the local community, building relationships with homeowners and local business owners. Over the last year, we’ve completed numerous projects for residential and commercial clients. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have had many challenges on my journey. One challenge has been that I am new to the painting industry, as well as new to business ownership in general. In addition, 2023 was a challenge for many businesses in the industry. However, I did not, and should not have expected that I would have flipped a switch and voila, instant success. I’m grateful that it has been challenging. I would not feel as confident or be as prepared as I am now for the next year (Aug 1 was our 1 year anniversary) if I had not spent the time since we opened our doors to problem solve and to get creative to market the business. Experience has a cost that I’m happy to pay.

What does success mean to you?
Success is a moving target, and multifaceted.
At a basic level, I would consider myself successful if I were to set a goal and achieve it according to a plan that I devised for that goal.
At a higher level, if achieving that goal required me to revise my plan multiple times after failed attempts, I would consider that even a greater success because I didn’t give up after the first failure.
Finally, if I pursue a goal, and after multiple attempts still fail to achieve the goal, I consider myself to be successful if I walked away from the experience having learned something that I can apply in other areas of my life, either personally or professionally.
Eventually, long strings of successes, combined with the learning experiences from my failures, will lead me to the ultimate success of a thriving business that contributes to society as well as allows me to have a healthy balance of work and personal life.
