Meet Ashley Alexander of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Alexander

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up as the friend that would alway be taking pictures of anything happening. My grandpa bought me my first camera and I had no clue what to do with it. I have taught myself over the last 10 years and have become truly obsessed with capturing the special moments of others’ lives. I finally decided back in 2020 that this is something I want to continue to do for the rest of my life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being self taught has had its ups and downs. I never had a mentor or someone to teach me so I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. I also work a full time job working 40-50 hours a week so I balance a lot outside of both my job and photography.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in weddings, couples, and families. I’m a sucker for a good wedding so there wasn’t an easier decision to make when trying to niche down. My couples I work with are some of my favorite people. I love learning about their stories and getting to know the true reason for their love! I’m most proud of my work in 2024 since I have really dedicated most of my time into my photography business over the last six months. My progress in my work really shines lately and the attention to detail of capturing the depth of each session has really been noticed by clients.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS. Imposter syndrome is so real and it will do nothing but tear you down if you compare yourself to the “big name” photographers. Trust your gut, run your business how YOU want to and don’t undercut your prices because you don’t think your work is worth it. I did free sessions for so long when I had just started and while it got me some good practice and a staring portfolio, free sessions are not worth your time!!!
